Should I use my bugged, flying Rylak?

Unread post by Aggannor »

As some of you might know, during early days of Warlords of Draenor, there was a bugged Rylak spawn in Shadowmoon Valley that shared skin with Iron Skyreaver mount. Some time after launch this Rylak was removed, but I was one of few Hunters who managed to tame this unique pet before that.

I recently started to reuse this pet after getting fitting transmog together, but I noticed that he has an ability to fly up to airborne enemies, like all flying pets could during early Cataclysm beta. Given that this is clearly not intented behavior, should I stop using him altogether, or just avoid situations where this would give an unfair advantage and use normal pets instead? I've grown suprisingly attached to him, but I would rather not risk a ban because of it.

If you don't mind losing the flying ability, there is a rare tameable with the same skin in Nagrand.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

Actually, it's different one. One in Nagrand uses the red skin on left, while the one that I have uses brown/tan skin on right. If they were the same, I would have started using the Nagrand one right away.

I think you should be fine as long as you use it wisely. If you realize it's causing things to bug out, like getting an add stuck somewhere during a boss fight, do not use it in those cases.

Personally I would NOT use it in PVP, PVP complaints get things "fixed" faster than anything.

ahhh, colourblind me... didn't see the difference at first.
I just love my jet-engine Rylac.

Just to note, if you have blink on, any pet can teleport up into air space to tag a target.

there are some in Frostfire that on ocassion fly during combat. I used my flying rylak during the broken Isle assault even and LFRs. As long as you don't try to exploit it, it shouldn't matter if it flies or not.

Just joined the forums.. Love the site, but just came across this thread and hope it's not too old to rez. When my hunter first stepped into WoD and you land, before you speak with durotan as horde, there are elite rylaks there and I tamed one. He has always flew. I just thought it was something they did lol I send him after stuff overhead all the time and he just flies up there to get it.. Problem only comes when sometimes the mob dies up there and doesn't fall to the ground. Never occurred to me that they weren't supposed to do it, just thought it was something they added during my hiatus from the game.

I've got this same rylak, and while I barely use him anymore (survival is too much fun) I've become increasingly worried over this pet. WoD was a weird time, and old stuff seems to get handled with a heavy hand. Really hope that they don't do something drastic to "solve" this. Hell, an escort quest was just flat-out removed from Durotar instead of anything slightly more creative being applied to it so that cross-realmers wouldn't have to wait for it to be finished, and the mob/event that spawned this rylak in the first place was broken so they just removed the spawn trigger or whatever and made the mob associated with it spawn somewhere else.

Really hard to avoid situations where this could be "exploited" sometimes with how popular flying mobs are becoming. It can be hit or miss to get it going, but once it starts flapping its wings, it's airborne and will chase down absolutely anything else that can fly.
