7.3.5 - Void Stalker creature family

Unread post by Wain »

According to MMO-Champion, “Void Stalker” has been added as a creature family in 7.3.5. I assume this is to facilitate taming by hunters but I haven’t got on to check yet.

Never complaining about new hunter families, but feels a bit redundant to me. More so than there being Rylak when they could be Chimaera.

I think for literally one model in one coloration all over the game, they could've just been melded into warpstalkers.

I can't see any that aren't classed as Aberrations, so far.

I agree, this just seems redundant. I assumed that when they would add a tamable Voidstalker, that it would just be added to the Warp Stalker family.

During my search of Argus today, I haven't seen a single Voidstalker that wasn't an aberration.

Perhaps this means an expansion of the warpstalker family to include the void recolor as well as some other similar but non-warpy beasts, sort of like rodents happened? (and yes, we don't need another message from the Chimaera Redundancy Department of Redundancy)

The Void Stalker family is an entirely new family, not a name change like what happened with porcupines and rodents. The only beast that could be in the Void Stalker family would be Voidstalkers, which are just Void-consumed Warp Stalkers. If there is going to be other Void-consumed beasts in this family, then it needs to have its name changed to better fit that.

Yeah, I think that Teigan means that since the icon is named "warpstalker" but the image is a voidstalker, perhaps it's a sign they are including it as a warp stalker. But it's hard to know what they intend. :/ I've heard nothing.

Aye, it is hard to know what they intend to do until we actually see something happen.

My only issue with this -

The Horde push the blood elves away for studying the void.

Surely they wouldn't be okay with Horde hunters delving into the void and befriending a void pet, right?

If these were Alliance-only with a Horde-only family added like non-exotic versions of Manasabers, that'd make more sense IMO.

I sincerely hope this means we'll see some Hounds of Tindalos style tameables!

That'd be interesting if they did that.

I was kinda hoping we would get the “Aberration” pet family. This could have included the flesh beast in Draenei starter area and maybe even encompassed oozes and the like(can’t remember what those ugly mutated things are in starter area). Also they could have given the ability to tame “aberrations” to void elves as default much like goblins and gnomes can tame mechanicals at creation with other races learning thru a book, etc. This then could allow them to give any new Dinos(and old) to the Zandalari by default yet requiring a book, etc for others to learn. But yea, voidstalkers >.<.

Fairly sure the starter pet for Nightbourne was a mana sabre in a couple photos people have posted from sandboxes. So maybe they’ll do something Alliance/Horde after all.

Lore-wise, it doesn't make sense for Horde hunters to tame void pets, seeing as they did push away the Void Elves. However, I can't imagine Blizzard putting faction restrictions on pets, mainly because of the uproar I could imagine there being as a result.

But, at the same time, there are faction restrictions for other things, so it wouldn't exactly be out of the ordinary

Maybe they view taming a void beast as less serious than soaking yourself in void ;) A bit like taming a demon vs. becoming a demon. Then again, demon hunters are pretty close to the latter scenario... :P

But either way I suspect it's just something they'll just turn a blind eye to. :)

@Poppets. The Manasaber that Nightborne get is unique. Instead of being a Spirit Beast, it is a Cat.

The lore concerning the Horde/BEs pushing out the VEs isn't so much due to them using the Void, but how they learned to do it. They researched the journals of Dar'khan Drathir, who played a huge part in the fall of Quel'thalas to the Scourge. If not for this reason, then the VEs being exiled would be a rather odd thing to do seeing as the Horde allows Shadow Priests, Warlocks, DKs, and DHs.

Void stalker is a little more specific than I would have figured. Something like void beast would give them more family flexibility. I'll laugh if we end up with a family with a single skin in it though.
