Oh yeah, that's the one book were a group of tourists do have to get rid of that One Fly, so decide to bring it to the Flypaper of Doom. They form a fellowship of the Fly, protecting it from The Hivelord, who would gain immense power to terrorize hotels and beaches and kids with sweets, not to mention the dog excrements he could lay under siege! And then...

 Nah, just kidding... Our teacher in school actually tried to make us read it but was shouted down and so decided on Carl Zuckmayers "Der Hauptmann von Köpenik". Hmmm... I wonder if there is an english version of this... We all looked forward to it, because there is a rather funny old german movie but it turned out the movie was cool but the book was rather made for social criticism of the german society of that time. Boooooring! ;)

Despite what I said yesterday, I ended up jumping into another new series, Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Yes, yes, more vampire porn. :D This one is very Buffy-esque: half-vampire amateur vampire slayer meets good vampire, becomes professional vampire slayer, and of course falls in love.

I finished the first book, Halfway to the Grave, last night and am about halfway through the second book now.

I'm currently reading The Hobbit. I'm not even half-way through, but it still seems like a great book. :)

The Hobbit was definitely my favorite Tolkien book. I found the Lord of the Rings trilogy itself rather slow.

If you just skip all those nonsense songs and poetry and (I do that most of the time) the Frodo-Samweis-parts, it's a pretty cool book.

No honestly. When I saw the movies, I thought Frodo and Sam were about to throw the ring away, run back to the Shire and start the first all gay hobbit commune. Geez!

It was the combat scenes that dragged me down. I'm always up for some nice hobbit yaoi.

I agree with Mania, the combat scenes felt pressured, while the more emotional scenes were... More emotional...

I'm a guy! When we had the big battle in part three I was like:
"Hey! Couldn't he have gotten some more people in there? This looks like an elementary schoolyard brawl! Boooooring!"

No, I wasn't but I couldn't get enough of it!

The combat scenes are good, no doubt about that. They're just not that good.

Matter of taste I guess.
Peter (Jackson, that is) seems to have a taste very close to mine.

Agreed. I never even got through the first book of the trilogy. It put me to sleep, literally.

I've read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy over a dozen times. I know many people find them dry, but I just adore those books and frequently go back to them about once a year or so. :)

The very first time that I tried to read them was in Grade 4, and they were a little too difficult to get into at that age. I've been an avid reader my entire life and as a child I often was reading novels that were well above my age range. I did read the Hobbit and enjoyed it very much, but the Trilogy was decidedly more 'meatier' - they're tough books to chew on and if you aren't in the right frame of mind it's easy to give up on them.

I attempted the Trilogy again in Grade 7, and once I managed to get through the first part of the story I was hooked. I fell into a rhythm with Tolkien's writing style and quickly became so adapted to it that I no longer had any problems or lulls with his dialogue and description. The plot was so engaging that I could not put them down and marathoned all 3 books in a matter of a week.

Since then I re-read them every while to relive that nostalgia and enjoyment. I wholeheartedly support the movies and adore what they did with them. They are also something I marathon watch every year or so as well.

Last year on my birthday my mother bought me an Anniversary Edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy - all in one book! Now I don't have to scramble to find all three since they mysteriously seem to get lost all over the place, and when I wanted to read them I could never find them. xD

LoTR was...difficult. I loved The Hobbit and I love a lot of Tolkien's less-well-known short stories, but it took me no less than four tries to get through the entire LOTR series. I enjoyed Fellowship, but after that the books delve into a lot of politics and whatnot, and I have always hated that sort of thing as a rule, especially if it gets really complicated.

More recently I tried to read the Simarillion, but couldn't get very far in that one either. :(

Just finished reading 'A feast for crows', the 4th novel in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series by George R.R. Martin.

All in all a bloody good read with lots of warfare, politics (the fun sort of politics with assassinations and such) and a nice sprinkle of fantasy that doesnt go over the top. Oh yeah, and blood all over the place :P

Cant wait for part 5, but untill then I ll just have to delve into the many bookstores in my hometown for something new.
