This makes me think, somehow, that we may have to choose between direhorn and the new devilsaur models. Just an idea, but I hope that isn't the case! D:

My guess on what happens is that the two beasts can be found out in the wild and will sometimes fight eachother, and with new quests where you have to kill some dinosaurs, you'll probably get some sort of quest credit for killing both while they're fighting eachother.

Whatever it is, it's obvious just from that that there's some kinda 'friction' between the two, but triceratops vs. t-rex has been something most dinosaur games like to do. :P
... I mean, anyone remember Operation Genesis? (Hope I just smacked some nostalgia in the faces of some of you!)

You indeed just did smack my face with some nostalgia! I remember when I used to edit my computer versions files so my dinosaurs could live longer, eat less, and walk farther distances. Oh yeah, and I made the water ultra-high-quality and unlocked everything in the game without doing any work!

I hope the animals interacting in the environment are at the least realistic to an extent. I don't want to see them just randomly waltzing up to eachother and then beating down their health in a fashion that makes them look like simple machines. You'll know what I'm talking about if you watch some good, realistic dinosaur documentaries.

Also hoping for some new Crocolisk models, would really fit in with the whole ''This is a place filled with lots and lots of Archosaurs''. Case in point, early Crocodilians.

For anyone still in denial Direhorns are one of the new dinosaurs...
Q: @Ghostcrawler Greetings oh mighty phantom crab a question regarding the Dire Horn, aka Triceratops, any chance you can expand on them?

A: @DmitryFreyger They're dinosaurs?
As posted before, because the Direhorn species skill shares the same exact name, text, etc. as one meant for triceratops, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say Direhorns are Triceratops now.

It's not so much denial as it is a lack of 100% proof. Still, it's all but official that the dire horns are the dinosaurs referred to. :)

There was a comment earlier about riding them, and speculating that the taming might be a rep-learned passive skill like cloud serpent riding. The mad thought thereafter is: perhaps once we get the rep and learn "direhorn riding" to gain a rideable direhorn (available to all classes) hunters can then take it further and go take it. Perhaps by jumping on a wild beast and riding it about the island until it's exhausted and suitable for taming (a bit like the rare drake in Deepholm). All complete wishful thinking, but anyway...

The quest/whatever info from the past page insinuates we have to learn to "dominate their mind," as they have us practice on raptors.

It's quite possible that Direhorns are not meant to be tamed by non-Old God corrupted Trolls, so we have to forceably connect with them, rather than make an instant connection like normal.

(And before anyone asks, in the Dragon Soul book, when it's mentioned N'zoth corrupted him as Neltharion, it's mentioned N'zoth also corrupted the Zandalari Trolls, which was probably said because people were still confused as to why they were so stubborn about the other trolls)

This isn't actually true. The description states "any raptor, compy, or direhorn." You can try to dominate the direhorn's minds immediately.
I personally feel that direhorns won't all be rare creatures, per se; in fact, you'll probably run into a lot of them while you quest on Thunder Isle. However, you will have to do something out of the ordinary in order to tame them.

It states in Beast Pens, which means those Direhorns are probably already tame to an extent. :P

Well, that's what I meant. xD
I was just saying I don't think that particular quest is related to hunters taming direhorns.

But, none of us will really know until the next PTR patch, probably.

Not that one though. That item was created back in vanilla. I only have vague memory of it but I do clearly remember that it was in Un'Goro and you had to find a Devilsaur and stab it with the item, and then run like hell! I think it was part of the druid's class quest to get a chest piece? I might be wrong though. :?

Yep, it was part of this quest here that no longer exists.

i would think they have a quest chain to learn about these new dinosaurs, and im almost 99% sure they will be bm only, its gonna be a tough call if we can also tame one of the new model devilsaurs

There's another thing: how terrible would it be for the Surv or MM hunters if the only new pets introduced were BM?
Not very fair.

Sounds about right for every patch in Northrend that only introduced a new spirit beast - and I wasn't BM most of the time, so I can tell you that it sucked.

I think Blizzard's been more considerate of the non-BM specs in more recent memory, but there is definitely a precedent for BM-only pet patches. I'm not saying that's what will happen, merely that it wouldn't be entirely shocking if it did.
