Orcs, trolls, undead, goblins and blood elves are all supposed to speak Common. Tauren somehow talked to Orcs when the latter first landed on Kalimdor, that must have been Common as well.

Additionally, it wouldn't be unusual for an older human to speak Orcish (learn the language of your enemy and all that), and most current adult draenei should speak some Orcish (they lived next to each other for centuries).

The real problem with this is Blizzard repeatedly stating the faction barrier is in their opinion a "crucial element of WoW's gameplay/identity".

Pretty much, common is a lot like English is in RL. Not everyone speaks it, but it's the lingua franca (damn AP Human Geography is paying off already) and many, many people who work in industry/trade/whatever have had to learn english in order to keep up. Essentially, english is the current big trading language, ergo many people know it.

Same story with Common. It's the big world wide language of Azeroth, and I imagine both factions were bound to pick it up in times of peace or when they were unified in the same cause--especially with the help of the Argent people nudging them along to be friends. (Like LK, there was a lot of collaboration between Horde/Alliance, and there are several instances when both factions team up or helped each other-Alliance quests in HFP, anyone?)

I'm praying for account-wide BoAs. I have a bunch of heirloom gear sitting on my old server and I'm too lazy and too broke to pay for a server transfer.

What about all the neutral factions like Argent Crusade and Cenarion Circle? They are able to speak to alliance and horde and have members from many different races. Lore wise, language isn't a barrier. It's something that's only in place as a game mechanic to further segregate the two sides.
But those factions are neutral. Therefore it makes sense that they learn the other races languages. That being said I wouldn't expect a Cenarion Tauren who's speaking Tuarhe(sp?) to a Tauren to be understood by a human who he then turns around and speaks common to the human while the horde Tauren stands by bewildered.
But any member of those factions speaks to your character in the correct language. It's simply a forced mechanic by Blizz that is wearing thin. Just like pandas suddenly not being able to talk to each other anymore.

But I think well see more cross realm before we see cross faction.

O.o wonder if my spam tickets for an account wide, heirloom gear tab similar to mounts and mini-pets have been answered?

Thats true but I wouldnt use that as an excuse as to why horde and alliance should be able to understand each other. I look at it like this, those are neutral factions, which would mean they'd learn all the languages. Therefore they'd easily be able to slip into the correct one for whichever race they were dealing with. That being said you're right. I dont see horde and alliance PLAYERS coming together anytime soon, if ever.

In a shock move, inanimate objects and NPCs shall become tameable for the first time. Brooms will be OP for their incredible sweeping pushback abilities, leading them to be banned from Arathi Basin after too many players are brushed off of cliffs. Meanwhile, the huge queues to tame Gamon are set to cause massive amounts of much-deserved graphic lag for all the Hordies hearthing who haven't already realised that the Tauren area in Orgrimmar is a far better place to set it.

And let's not forget Beast Mastery hunters - they shall be envy of all of Azeroth with their newfound ability to tame the exotic family of buildings, pissing off Auction House users everywhere. You can expect many a cry of "Go Tempest Keep!", but far more of "Go Stormwind Auction House!" and "Go Orgrimmar Auction House!", and for the more considerate player who does not wish to inconvenience players, "Go Exodar Auction House!".

And finally - since the joke is getting old even for me - for all hunters, patch 5.4 will bring the option to tame the elusive and mighty specimens of Dire Architecture - a collection of the very worst designed buildings in Azeroth and Outland.

Quote from a Blizz Employee (ignore all the panda/monk stuff xD) about cross-faction communication
We do understand that, by not allowing pandaren of the opposite faction to communicate with one another, there's a breakdown in the story there. But we feel strongly at this point that changing the precedent on cross-faction communication for one race only will ultimately not lead to a good gameplay experience. We're very excited to introduce a race that can be chosen by either faction, though we don't see our philosophy on cross-faction communication changing as a result of this.

This isn't very related, nor is it a way of properly compensating for that communication limitation, but one thing we'd like to do (we think is cool and warranted) is make a unique place in the world exclusive to monks -- think Moonglade for druids.
The original post http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/2040 ... other-why/

Though this particular response was towards Pandaren specifically, if it was about the factions as a whole, their response would be no different im sure. It would "ultimately not lead to a good gameplay experience". Thats by the sounds of this quote the reason why they wont bend their ideas and preferences on this part of the game.

Strangely on this matter I tried scouring google for Cross-Faction Communications/Speech and i couldnt find any Blizz responses or statements on the matter o_O I found droves of people just about everywhere I looked that were in dis-favor of removing or creating options to the barrier.

Unrelated to cross-communication;

I really like the idea of cross-realm BoA's /drool I would loooooooove if they'd do that already... Make things so much easier on mah!

You do realize GMs have no control over any of that, right? And putting in tickets just for that stuff is just making the que longer for no reason?

Can I tame Dalaran, or would it piss off the tanks because it's a flying pet? ;)

I have this odd feeling like this new super secret feature will be along the lines of LFD or Transmog, some awesome game changing feature. But at the same time, it's hard to think of something that would be as ground breaking as those features.

On a related note, I remember back in Cataclysm beta, Ghostcrawler stated in an interview that he'd like to have some sort of 'level down' system where high level characters could level down and have their gear scaled so that they could run old content or even group with lowbie friends. Weather this idea got scrapped or simply put on the backburner will remain to be seen, but it would appear that challenge mode gear scaling could be the framework for this system.

So pre-MoP challenge modes incoming?

That would be pretty cool, IMO. Honestly, it could add more content at little cost. (Except the initial development of the level down system.)

That could be something to consider, I know GW2 already uses this system. When you go to low level zones as a high level character you're automatically adjusted to the right level. This level constantly changes for across the zones, such as right in the very human starter area you'd be expected to be 5 at max or maybe 6 but when you start getting closer to Westfall the levels change to around 9 or 10.

Another big one to consider is that the Dance Studio coupled with a way to use Achievement Point's is back underworks. This is something I'd LOVE to see personally!

CHALLENGE MODE RAIDS.
Karazahn, Ulduar, etc becoming end game again, with rewards of valor points/justice points/faction rep and higher (possibly 100%) drop rates for the mounts, and possibly achivement rewards such as titles/minipets/mounts/transmog gear?

According to GC, the level-down is already there in current challenge modes, and it's part of the general scaling down in that mode. The actual design effort to put in that would be tuning the abilities and some maths to current class balance.

I personally don't consider it player housing at all; it paves the way for the mechanics but has zero personalisation to your characters. I wanted it to be player housing, I really did, but once you get all the NPCs to exalted and forced to take whatever they decide to give you in whatever amount they give you (seriously where's my goats on my farm?) there's just nothing left to improve or change or even move around (outside of the crop mini-game); adding work orders won't fix that, it's just a few new quests.

I'd expect player housing to let you display collections - armor sets, weapons, pets, mounts, achievements, etc; possibly have the grow your own crops idea garden tagged into it, maybe profession specific areas, bank access, hiring some npcs, transmog wardrobe deposit like feature, etc.

Would like something around the size of the DMF island but instanced, where you'd somehow acquire deeds to the land (gold/quest) and work your way up building your house from scratch - sort of like the farm but a far more complex process, and preferable one that's not gated by rep but effort/gold put in.

Won't happen but I can dream!
That's why I said "kinda" ;)

Ugh i SO hope this never happens xP Least, there needs to be an option for it. A toggle or something. This and a few other things in GW2 are the exact reasons why it was sooooo epic at first when i began GW2 but havent touched it since the turn of the year and my highest character sitting at lvl 19. I really do not like level scaling forced upon us. Challenge dungeons/raids/BG's/Whatever are fine, but thats it.

Personally, I wish we could actually speak to the opposing faction. From what I understand there are some MMOs that opposed factions don't have the artificial language barrier we do. Enemies can talk to each other. It just makes more sense that way. Sure it would add some griefing but some understanding as well. As several people have said, the language barrier really doesn't make sense. Why can I talk to a night elf quest giver, but not a night elf? How do the Earthen Ring and Cenarion Circle get anything done if they can't talk to each other? Oh wait...they can. How do alliance pandas suddenly forget the language they've been speaking their whole lives, rendering them unable to talk to my horde panda?
