Worms = the New Gorilladin

Unread post by Worba »

After many, many fruitless attempts at the Ravenlord (e.g. completed it easily, but mount didn't drop) and feeling no RNG love, I decided I was due for a change of pace.

So I decided to give worms a try; my boar Tanuki has always been a solid tank, but what's all this noise about the new burrowing ability?

After some camping I managed to tame an Oozeworm, renamed it Dune, and 2 random heroics later it was up to lvl 80.

Took it into SH, and ... WOW. Just, wow.

It took a bit of fiddling with macros and timing to get it down, but dayam can the new pet AOE. :shock:

Has anyone else tried using one of these since 4.0? If not, I'd recommend them - before they get nerfed. Because the last time a tenacity pet stood out this much was back when TS was boosted... and gorillas were still the only pet to have it.

You're definately not the only one to enjoy worms. (Love the name, btw)

I tamed my jormungar, Daggoth, shortly before 4.0.1., just to have an exotic Tenacity pet. Even before the changes, he was decent -- right up there with my Scorpid.

After the changes ... well, let's just say he's ALWAYS in one of my active pet slots. My little Cerebrate just *owns* SH, ZG, he's awesome during the Halls of Stone iron dwarf swarm event, he and I can now solo Chillmaw ... need I go on?

I really hope they *don't* nerf the new worms. I'm in love!

That's a good name for a worm, too - has a nice Cthulhu-y ring to it! :mrgreen:

He's actually named after Daggoth, Cerebrate of Tiamat Brood, the largest and most powerful brood in the Zerg Swarm, and the Overmind's right-tentacle worm in Starcraft I.

Ah, neat - the name reminded me of Dagon, the deity from semitic mythology, later popularized by HP Lovecraft... it also reminded me of Lovecraft's infamous shoggoth monster.

If they haven't fixed it, worms lose aggro for just a moment when they do their burrow, and they have to [pick it up again' when they get back up. So tanking with a worm can be hazardous to your health! But for sheer AOE damage? It's absolutely incredible. And if notes I read are accurate, it's being *buffed*.

Pick Priority Target.
Send in Worm.
Misdirect to worm while waiting for pretty lightning.
Throw Explosive Trap.
Hit Burrow.
Multi-shot like hell.
Enjoy the death, destruction and a crap load of numbers.

I've NEVER been able to solo ZG before, but since my lovely worm, Sorboros, got his Burrow ability there is nothing but death and destruction raining down upon my enemies in a way I've not seen since I last raided ZG with ten other 80s. You can safely pull almost every enemy before the bosses (the spiders are a bit of a problem because of the ones that spawn after the mobs are dead and burrow is on CD, but everything else is doable easily and you can just FD on the spiders and you're good) though I haven't gotten the courage to try and take on Hakkar solo just yet.

I usually see the mobs start to run at me as my Ludo starts his Burrow Attack, turn around, run back to him, stand there, and stare at the dirt pile on the ground like "Where did he go?!" It's quite amusing, really.

Sounds like ColMustard needs to come out of the stables! (grubthor ;P)

@Feath3r - Solo Hakkar would be easy since he doesn't MC pets.... or did they change that?

I have no idea, I haven't hit him since the patch hit since I've been running with a DK friend

Hakkar indeed won't cast his mind control if his current target is a pet.

Just make sure Arlokk is dead so he doesn't gouge your pet and stop attacking it.

He does it to me.

I've had him MC me and I've killed my pet, but lucky me, I've got HotP talented for solo work now :lol:

On-topic, I freaking love worms. I will probably swap Grubthor for the black Jormungar when it comes out, they look amazing. The AoE is disgusting, though--I definitely recommend them for MgT (the Wyrmling packs), Sethekk (owl packs) and anything else you might wind up doing alone.

I had always wanted the ghost Jormungar, but never actually went for it until expanded stables hit recently. Gezzerak used to be my 'tank', but she'd go down fast on certain mobs. I also kinda didn't pay much attention to the important tanking abilities and all that... >_<;;

I first brought my cute worm to AQ40 to kill the trash for my scepter quest. I was absolutely impressed with him once I got the hang of things. I hate Gorillas and am happy to see a tanking pet that does the job and looks cool too.

And Cerah, Zerg rule! I named my guild after a Defiler move- Dark Swarm :) love my Zergies ^-^
