I just got mine too! I also camped him for about 7 hours. He spawned where mentioned and then quickly disappeared and went EAST. I was having a heart attack until he re-submerged. lol



Named him Nerfbat.. of course. lol

I think if you can just stack food, pots, elixirs for haste and get a corehound for his bloodlust effect.. you will have no problem taming. I had NO fire resist gear.
