The reason why you see so many spiders is because it is a ranged fire&forget root. Dogs and crabs also have a root, but require melee range and it must be channelled... and despite this has the same cooldown as the web.

If you are raiding at all, you need to be using cunning/ferocity pets unless there is some really bizarre situation that calls for tenacity.
