Re: Rant Thread
Hah, thanks; not often the old orc gets that offer! We're still on borrowed time with the ESR though - sometime next year it'll be subjected to the same gunk that mainline Firefox has. I'm rapidly running out of browsers I can even tolerate, much less like >.< I tried Pale Moon but it really didn't ...

@Bowno Try switching to the Extended Support Release. It's not getting the new terribleness for some time yet.

Yeah it can do .eps and a whole heap of others. For getting it into my CAD program (FreeCAD), the default SVG format worked well.

If you're researching stretches that might be beneficial for you, you might find this book useful. My myotherapist recently lent me her copy, and it's got good coverage of muscle groups. Regardless, I hope you find something that works for you!

Re: Art Q: auto-tracing line art into vector graphics
Thanks Tali! I ended up doing the unthinkable and read the manual for Inkscape, then just dropped the scan in the background and redrew it with b-splines. Took a couple of hours, but worked out ok.

Art Q: auto-tracing line art into vector graphics
I'm posting here in the hope that one of you talented line-arty people will have some wisdom for me :) So my situation is that I have a pencil sketch that I've scanned, and am now needing it to load into my CAD program for further tweaking before I can machine it. This means I need it as vector grap...

I'm not around here as much as I used to, but I'm very glad to hear there have been some good news! And if you haven't already encountered it, perhaps spoon theory can be helpful in explaining to people?

Some &!@#!@!&~!$ madman ran down a whole bunch of pedestrians right in the middle of the city today, just a block away from my work. Insane. Last report said three people dead, and 25+ injured.

I'm totally out of the WoW loop by now; Does this imply that a bunch of you have scored in-game NPC doubles?

Mine tried that trick two days ago, but I noticed in time and said Nope Nope NOPE! and both cancelled that upgrade and disabled the "recommended updates" that it had been pushed as. Geez... I'll upgrade if/when I'm ready thank you very much! And don't get me started on their new "flat...

Re: New Computer Help?
Rawr has been offering excellent advice while I've been asleep! :) Good idea about using the Windows mem-tester, it's quite good too. If it says everything is a-ok, that's a good start. At this point I concur that it sounds like graphics driver issues. New games are *really* good at bugging out driv...

Re: New Computer Help?
Dropping screws while working on computers is perfectly normal. Either that or I'm totally abnormal :D Just bad luck (or case design) it ended up in the power supply. It could happen to anyone, don't read too much into it. And yeah, reseating = pull out the RAM module, blow the socket clean (probabl...

Re: New Computer Help?
All parts come with warranty, but you won't have the option of on-site repairs of course, and if you need to send something off for replacement it's a bit of a hassle. The only things I've needed to do that with has been hard drives though, and I've done that mostly out of principle. I don't know mu...

Re: New Computer Help?
Alright, I'll take a stab at this for you. It has been a few months since I was spec'ing out what I'd like to upgrade my box to, though I haven't felt well enough off to justify it yet. Also, I do build from parts myself, so my views are biased in that direction. In terms of CPU, the common consensu...

Re: New Computer Help?
Could you give some specs on what you currently have, such as what CPU, how much RAM and which graphics card? It would give us something more concrete to compare against

Aaaand another one... Switch off your flash plugins again folks!
Flash needs to die. The damn thing has had more security holes than Windows itself I reckon (on a per-feature scale at least).

Can we get on with building The Matrix already so we can satisfy all these luddites and fossil-fuel lovers without them constantly dragging the rest of society down and back, please?! Can't we just give them their own world to destroy?! #notproudtobeaustralianrightnow
