I can say for pretty sure that having someone of your own faction kill your pet in a duel doesn't work - spent half an hour trying that with a friend a while back without a single proc.

As for actual PVP, I don't know if that would make a difference.

I still haven't gotten one, but similarly to Nachtwulf, I've only really been doing solo content and world bosses on my three 110s. Withered training whenever it comes up, daily world quest boxes, that's about it. I really haven't had the energy to do any more group content than absolutely necessary...

Also one thing of note if you're going in as a Hunter: You can track the invisible proximity mines with Track Mechanicals, making them visible on your minimap. If you scroll all the way in, you should be able to make your way around the island without getting blown into pieces every few feet.

My wisp Hati is still going strong, though I'm fully prepared for him to change at any point. The wisp is nice and small without a walk/run animation, plus it fits my main who's a nelf.

I just happened to notice that the Skywhisker Scrappers that spawn with the rare Skullhat in Highmountain have this exact effect on them, along with a buff/debuff called Stench. Unfortunately while it does cause a player to take damage while near them, the effect on the player does not look the same...
