Volley removed from the game (And of course when I don't report a missing skill because I think it's a bug, it's actually gone for real)
It's gone. We want to make Multi-Shot the spell hunters use for AE.

Channeling a spell that makes arrows fall out of the sky doesn't feel like a hunter ability and doesn't even really match the name of the spell.


Only class with a minimal range and now without volley only class without an aoe /shakes head
You realize "only class" claims are viewed as a success by the developers. The classes are too similar as it is. (Source)
Most seem to think they simply removed it & that we will be using multishot instead.

Yep. Volley was edging out Mult-Shot, even though we think the latter is the more interesting ability. Volley felt too much like a magic spell and not something a hunter was doing with her bow or gun. (Source)

Well, I knew they were going to rebuild us from the ground up, but I really do hope that Multi shot will be a little competitive with other classes aoe :| .

As for

I find it rather funny that they say that their spell does not look like volley animation, yet aren't they the ones that had the choice to animate it that way in the 1st place... and they dont like it... so they'll use it as one of the reasons to remove it? Weird.

Oh and saying

Now wait, what, we casting spells again? :roll:

but.. but... but i use volley and multi all the time... there was no reason to kill volley, no reason at all...

That's a kick in the teeth..They really do have a bad habit of really messing up the hunter class. So all the other ranged classes have AOE but hunters don't get it anymore because we have multi shot which only shots 3 different targets at once and is on a cooldown.

I'm really starting to loose respect for Ghostcrawler. The comments that man make just annoy me to no end. It's there typical we don't like this so we will nerf it and buff something else to make up for the nerf.. Then just leave it the freg alone! If it's not broken then don't mess with it...

And thats when Multi behaves, I've found it just as much of a bugger for screwing up as Typhoon is :/ Sure flatly IGNORE that target infront of me while you hit the other one next to it thats just what I wanted. ARGH.
My main's a Druid so I of course love critters. That counts for something right? Right?

I agree with you, but then they did kind of nerf it pretty hard in the beta atm, so it really has nothing on our current volley, but still, I must admit I am a little disappointed. My only hope it that they rework Multi-shot in some fashion to make up for it. Remove the cooldown? Let it hit "multiple" targets? etc, It could end up being quite good.

That said it could also go the other way and work like a chain lighting, 3 targets only, I must me in "X" proximity to each other, with cooldown, pretty much what it is atm. And then they would tell us, but you can throw Explosion traps now? :roll:

They shouldn't have to rework something to make up for not having something else. All they half to do is leave it alone and don't mess with it..Good thing this is beta and things can still change. I hate so see what other bright ideas they come up with.

Indeed I think our traps are pretty much our aoe now and multi as extra
its still lame they removed volley tho >_>

they explanation for the removal is making me cringe.

I half agree with you, but at the same time, we are getting a pretty heavy make over, so some things are bound to end up looking nothing like they did before. They said from the very beginning that they wanted to remove the "magic" (pardon the pun) out of hunters, so a channeling spell, may seem a little off (I wonder if we will still have to channel tame beast? O_O omg... muti-tame! tame 3 beast at once!.. ok I'm getting off track) so I can kind of see their reasoning behind it.

But I also think, that if your going to remove something that is currently a rather important hunters ability, it would be nice to know that they are aware of it and let the hunter community know that there are other changes coming that will make sense/not nerf our aoe too much/add to the hunters arsenal. The fact that they just decided to remove the skill and hope that we didn't knotice, then tells us we were nerfed because they didn't want us to be at the same lvl as other classes/the animation looked bad. That's what left the bad taste in my mouth mainly.

Why don't they love us? :(

Hopefully our traps will get a bit better since they have way too long of a cooldown (compared to other class AoEs, Rain of Fire and Blizzard come to mind) and would end up being our best (only?) AoE attack if Multi-Shot doesn't turn into our new "volley". Our Traps don't do anywhere near the damage of RoF or Blizzard, do they?

If we don't get something to make up for the damage we lose without Volley (and it's a LOT of my damage when tanks rush us forward and grab large groups) then we'll be lucky to get into a raiding guild, let alone a raid.

There not the ones playing the class so who cares ? We pay there salary so shouldn't they be more concerned about what the players want or like ?

Volley felt too much like a magic spell


Following that logic, Blizzard needs to remove Arcane Shot. Volley is a spell only because of game mechanics. Don't you think a hunter can be good enough to just crazy-shoot a bunch of arrows for a short amount of time?

BAH It's bad enough my poor rogue gets laughed and kicked out of randoms cause he has yet to hit 80 to get his own LOL aoe, now hunters are losing their only form of aoe? what? Must we rely on traps now for such?

I'm not worried about PvE; we'll have explosive traps + trap launcher for that.

I hope we get a better reply to what they plan to do for AOE then the arrogant one we got earlier. I know of players with Hunters will be screaming at them.

I know, I know. If they want to play "We are going to remove this because it looks like magic" card when they wish to alter/remove important class abilities, it really starts contradicting so may other skills and abilities that the class still retains. That and "volley" by definition is not really reffered to as having magical traits.

1. the simultaneous discharge of a number of missiles or firearms.
2. the missiles so discharged.
3. a burst or outpouring of many things at once or in quick succession: a volley of protests.

More of an skill or ability that a spell. Anyway, I am still hopeful that somehow they know what they are doing and we have yet to see the other positive side of it....

Dam thats a good point, the number of times I've dropped a volley on the ground in the direction that rouge vanished in and hit him out of stealth.. :|
