Re: Focus Regen/Maintaining Focus as a BM Hunter?
You said you pve a lot; where are you finding yourself low on focus - when solo grinding, pugging, or raiding?

Re: Focus Regen/Maintaining Focus as a BM Hunter?
Of course you wouldn't have found yourself low on focus pre-Cata; when they implemented the new Cata stuff right at the end of Wrath with all of our Wrath stats, every class suddenly became OP. (No joke either, I remember raiding ICC after the changes on my resto druid and spamming regrowth to my heart's content without a drop in mana.)
Also, I play a BM hunter at max level and have very few issues with focus. Are you making use of fervor? Bestial Wrath? Rapid Fire? (never use RF and BW together) Or even a cunning pet for the recovery roar?
Also, I've found with all 3 hunter specs you spend a lot of time steady shotting/cobra shotting for focus recovery to use your next big move

Re: Focus Regen/Maintaining Focus as a BM Hunter?
BM rotation should be...
Hunter's Mark > Serpent Sting > Bestial Wrath(whenever its up) > Kill Command(whenever it's available) > Arcane Shot > Cobra Shot(3x)
When Kill Shot is able to be used, that becomes your top priority over all else. Kill Command and BW are otherwise your time priority.
Rapid Fire and Fevor are very helpful.

Re: Focus Regen/Maintaining Focus as a BM Hunter?
Pretty much, if you're casting cobra shot a lot... That's how it's supposed to be. My shot priority is similar to what Jess said, however, I find that BM is very proc/CD dependant. I use my cobra shot cast-times to quickly glance at my action bars and see if I should be hitting any other buttons.
I find that generally every other "rotation" I can skip one of the cobra shots, and sometimes get an extra arcane shot in. But, I'm at the point with BM where I don't even think about it. I just... Get into the zone and my fingers know what I'm doing, so I'm not sure if I'm the right person to try and explain it, heh.
I rarely find myself out of focus, unless it's a HEAVY movement fight. But in those cases, I take the slight hit in rap and switch to aspect of the fox, so that I can keep hitting my spells and have enough focus for kill command when it's up.

Yeah. Kill Command is the biggie until Kill Shot is up. Isn't there other classes that are very CD dependant? Like the pally or somethin?CrystalKitten wrote:Pretty much, if you're casting cobra shot a lot... That's how it's supposed to be. Nope. Only thing it comes from is either you not doing anything or Cobra/Steady Shot. BMs dont use steady so its only Cobra Shot. You might wanna fix your bar so you're more efficient and use your cooldowns a bit more.

BW is great for a lot of things and I use it pretty much whenever it's off CD - as others have said you probably should be using it more often. Particularly in conjunction with multishot; not only does it ensure that damage boost gets the biggest possible "audience", it also allows you to throw a lot more of them.
I save fervor for the first focus outage, and rapid fire for the second - in particular RF combines super well with cobra shot.

Yeah sounds like you need to put your stuff closer so you see they're there.
I use Mik's Scrolling Battle Text and it tells me when things are off cooldown, amongst other things.

Actually haste affects(effects? whatever) your focus regen, however it's not enough to cause us to stack it. Just like rogues and feral druids.Jessibelle wrote:Nope. There's also a few talents that, when they proc, give us more focus as well (at least one per spec).

It gives focus to your pet - you get the +ranged haste, which is the next best thing.
