5.4.2 PTR: Cross-Realm Account-Bound Mail

In the latest 5.4.2 PTR build, we are testing the new ability to mail account-bound items to other characters on your account that may be on different servers. Notably, this should allow you to move heirlooms between servers, in advance of our planned Warlords changes that will make them fully account-wide.

Sending this sort of mail should work like any cross-server communication: You send the item to "Playername-Servername" and it should otherwise work like regular mail. Note that you can only send account-bound items, and not other items or gold.

Example: I have a character, Thrall, on the Benedictus server. I want to send my heirloom mace to my alt, Durotan, on the Lycanthoth server. I'd log in as Thrall, and attach the mace to a mail addressed to "Durotan-Lycanthoth" and hit send.

We'd appreciate any feedback or bug reports on this new feature so that we can address any issues prior to the release of 5.4.2. But even without direct feedback, just logging into PTR and mailing account-bound items across servers should give us useful data to help confirm that the feature is working as intended. Thanks!

You would have thought they would have tried to implement this 3 or 4 years ago when they created BOA items. They probably would have sold less paid transfers though.

I still think simply having a vendor in SW or ORG able to "sell" those items to any player under your account once you've "unlocked" it, would have been the easiest way. (you unlock the item on a main, then can go pick it up from a alt, etc)

It does seem like an odd time to be introducing this feature, with a new expansion just announced. Usually niceties like this are pushed to the new expansion.

I'm certainly very grateful for it, but it makes me wonder if there's a strategy reason they want it out sooner rather than later. Like, for example, maybe there's going to be a big realm transfer push soon to help faction imbalances so they want to make it more attractive for people to move a toon. Something like that, anyway. The timing just makes me suspect there's more behind it than just "we created this cool new thing".

Looms will be getting their own tab, but there are other account-bound items that are well worth mailing
For example archeology items or timeless isle BoAs.
My main and my main alts are all on a different server than all of my cloth alties (all of them very minor ones, none even close to lvl 90). I have a full bag of timeless clothes on my main server already, and I would love to have a way to send it to my clothies, should I wish to promote one of them to the main alt rank.

its a shame gold cant be sent since my alts are often in need of cash. But I know that if I could send gold xrealm I would be buying a spectral tiger on a cheaper server and I assume that's the reason you cant send gold in the first place. xD
you do bring up a good point though, it is kind of an odd time to add this feature.
