Giraffe calf frustration

Unread post by Tulune »

Anyone else having a rough time finding any? Apparently they spawn with the giraffes that roam the southern barrens, but about 2 hours worth of looking and killing giraffe spawns have yeilded nothing for me. Figures the only pet i ever really wanted would be impossible to find :(

Maybe they're linked to a certain time of day/night/weather condition?

they are linked to barren giraffes. the problem is they do not respawn until the adult ones are killed, and the adults share spawns with gazelle, so you have to fly around and around killing giraffes and gazelle until you get lucky. Annoying no? lol

Actually, not all the calves are linked to adult giraffes. In the north portion, there are occasionally calves wandering around without an adult. However, there are definitely spawns linked with the herds as well.

frustrating? you want frustrating?
I found TWO giraffe mini-pets last night, within a very short time.. and I killed them before being able to capture them.

I have NO idea how to time it so that its level is low enough to tame, but not enough for any attack to kill it.
I've tried switching out pets, nothing seems to work. is there a "pass" button? I haven't seen it.
Besides, many times i notice my battlepet will attack before I even get the chance to press a button.

add to the frustration: for some odd reason, my pets seem to do MASSIVE amounts of damage on their very last attack, but do rinky-dink puny damage at the beginning of a fight.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:

There is a pass button, and i did finally manage to get a giraffe last night. Try using an ability that is weak against it and whittle it's health down. I can't remember which type of ability is weak against critters though :x

Sukurachi, that can sometimes be attached to the pet you're using - some do that on purpose. :)

A good pet to use I found is the Ruby Sapling for pet farming. Level it up and it has a skill that is a self heal. I find when after pets I use him, and just let him sit there self healing while I spam trap until it lands. I've cought several rares that otherwise would have died or killed off my team trying to get if not for that guy. <3

I suspect it's because that portion is filled with lions. I've noticed that they do attack the giraffe adults now and then, leaving orphaned calves wandering around.

You don't really hafta worry about that too much...next patch is adding stones that'll upgrade a pet's quality.

I've run across three. Two are poor quality, the third I accidentally killed. I was trying to be careful and whittle its health down, then my pet got some zomg-super-crit-of-doom and the lil guy died.

When trying to get one, use one of your lower level pets. Make's it a whole lot easier.

Something that might help. If it dies and you log out without exiting combat it should respawn as it was. Same quality, same creature. I haven't tested this personally but other people I trust have. The devs are also aware of it but don't seem to mind too much.

I got really lucky with them, I think. The first one I found almost instantly but I killed it. The second one was harder to find, but it ended up being blue quality. o.o;;

They're a pain to catch, though. It really beat up my team.

From what I've read, Giraffe Calves are also linked to early mornings....in my case, bright and early at 6 a.m. Or the standard login immediately on server restart, but bleh to that. :p

Let me give Runty a good home.

which combat pet is the one that won't kill another pet making trapping it easier?

I'm sure I read somewhere that there was one combat pet that would not hit its opponent below x number of health, which would make capture much easier, avoiding accidental kills.
