What's a Boss Tag?

I'm a new hunter and in reading about all these exciting pets I've heard people talk about pets keeping their "Boss Tag" after being tamed.
What is a "Boss Tag" and does it do anything?

It has no actual effect, other than aesthetics. A boss tag means that your pets level will show up as ??, or a little skull. It's got no real effect.

when you tame a boss that has the skull ?? (boss) mark, you are somtimes lucky and it keeps it ^.^ dosnt do anything, kinda just somthing to show off. Makes your pet just a bit different then the rest of em. also if you tame a skull boss it will bug and say its lvl is -1 (it still gets talent points and damage scales to its real lvl though)

With patch 4.0.3 my Beast in the stable lost its Boss Tag

Yep, my Beast is now a garden variety red corehound.

They've added a scorpion, and Chromaggus too, I think the one Corehound boss from MC is now tameable too.
