Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
I find myself constantly pulling aggro off my pets, even my tenacity pets and even using MD regularly. Is it me or do they just not hold aggro like they used to?

I did notice a little something the other day... may have just been a fluke though. Will see.

Actually on any new Hunter alts I roll I always find I'm pulling aggro off my pets no matter what in the lower levels. I don't remember it being so problematic in the past.

I think so too, I been not even bothering using my tenacity pets aside from soloing rough content.

I've never had much problem with this, actually. Intimidation FTW.

even intimidation hasn't been working so effectively lately for me, and i've checked and rechecked the tooltip and it still says generates a high amount of threat.

Y'know, I'd wondered about this too. I thought it was just that recent upgrades & practice had upped my DPS and thus my threat generation relative to my pet, but perhaps not.

They've recently made a bunch of changes to threat for player tanks... Maybe for some reason some of the tweaks affected our pets (hopefully unintentionally).

I thought they increased threat for player tanks, though? But yes, they may have been working on code that also affected our pets.
Does anyone know if there is anything in the Blizzard forums about this?

When I'm in MM, whenever I use Aimed shot or Chimara shot, I pull threat off my scorpid or spider, and it's usually hard for the pet to take back. Not sure if this is affecting anyone else, though.

Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
They were supposed to have, yes, but without knowing exactly how they calculate threat across the board, and all that, there's no telling if there was some kind of unintended consequence or not... Like how when they changed the colours for ground AoE effects that were already casted, so you could tell if it was friendly or not, something in that same patch completely screwed up a lot of ground targeted ability (not sure if it was linked to the aoe change, or not.. but happened about the same time).Morven wrote:I thought they increased threat for player tanks, though? Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
i have two tank alts, and they have an ability/aura that increases threat from all attacks. my pally has Righteous Fury, my dk has Blood presence, warrs have defensive stance, and bears have bear form. i can hold as aggro as ret or frost spec just as well as prot/blood spec, as long as i use RF or Blood Presence.
our pets generate threat much differently than player tanks in that only one ability (growl) generates threat and it is a static amount of threat. for tenacity pets they have a second ability (thunderstomp) that generates a "moderate" amount of threat. the better gear you get the more likely you'll be pulling aggro off your pet. basically as you're able to do more dps, you "outgear" your pet's growl threat, because growl does not scale, while a player tank's threat does scale as they gear up.

It's mostly on low level characters that I've noticed a problem, at least for me. I definitely don't remember pet aggro being so flimsy from levels 10-30 in the past.

Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
Kurasu has no problem at all with it and his Tenacity pets. Lower level alts, though, before the pets have threat-enhancing abilities, are problematic. I am in agreement with the folks' mention above: it's not so much that your pet's threat is less, it's that your hunter's threat is more. At least, that's how it seems to me.
Come see Kurasu's stables!
Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
I don't do a lot of soloing on my high level alts, though now that Veph(?) mentioned it, I did find that I have a huge amount of trouble with my lowbies and their pet threat. Usually I think pets held pretty well at low levels (at least in SV and I expect BM), but my level 12 hunter finds her pet pretty useless, even if she specifically sends it out and gives it a few seconds of threat time... one arcane shot owns it.
Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
As an 85 who's slowly getting geared up (363) I can report the same problem. In MM: My tenacity pet rarely has an issue unless it's a long fight and I pop rapid shots, but my ferocity pet loses aggro after about 3 hits from me and I end up kiting the mob. My cunning pets fare even worse.
Pet threat has remained the same, but hunter damage has gotten very spiky and that could even be a problem for unprepared player tanks, let alone AI controlled pets with nothing but growl and (maybe) thunderstomp. they need to up pet threat or give all trees an extra taunt or two so we aren't stuck kiting monsters anyway. Until then, hope you like the tenacity tree!

Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
This isn't particularly elegant, but when I'm soloing with my lowbies, I send the pet in, then auto-shot, then Kill Command, before I unload on a target. I don't get aggro even from my non-tenacity pets this way, but it is slower paced than perhaps many would prefer.

Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
Yes, I do the same like Gorman - send pet in - wait - kill command - shoot, dead.
I participate in the random pet challenge threat a lot with my low level hunters and noticed the same things already mentioned. Pets that are something like level 40 or lower don't keep aggro, but luckily the mob usually is dead when it reaches me. By now my baby huntress has reached level 57 and since level 48 (or something close) she doesn't have problems anymore. Her turtle does a great job and even her cat can hold some aggro from a single mob. At my level 85 toons I haven't noticed anything strange, but I use Kill Command quite often which helps them for sure.

Also keep in mind...if you got heirlooms, you will pull off your pet very easily.
Re: Is it me or did they nerf our pet threat?
Just to throw it out there, no heirlooms on those hunters I mentioned.
