Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
Since the method to tame pets with buffs seems to phase in and out of being accessible to players, I thought I may as well compile a complete list of which mobs do and don't have permanent, fragile, or not-quite-a-buff buffs. I'll be putting in pictures and other information intermittently. Please post if I have left any out!
And to clarify for anyone new -- a permanent buff means the buff will not be lost upon death if the creature dies in the wild or as your pet. A fragile buff will (or if you die with the pet out!).
ALL BUFFS WILL BE CLEANSED IF A PET IS TAKEN INTO AN ARENA OR A RATED BATTLEGROUND.
Permanent Buffed Pets
Armored Battleboar - Retains fire across its body if hit with a torch from a Tauren starting quest.
Mining Monkey - Carries a pickaxe (Dungeon pet)
Consumed Thistle Bear - Purple glowing aura.
The Lone Hunter - Sword through the head.
Angered Arakkoa Protector - Blue mist.
Oiled Fledgeling - Black, thick, oily coat.
Oil-Stained Wolf - Black, thick, oily coat.
Kung Din - Rotating chain around his neck.
Grainhunter Hawk - Can be tamed with dull skin. It can also be tamed holding a bag -- the bag is fragile and will be lost upon death, but the dull skin will be retained.
Corrupted Crane - Sha effect around its feet and a dull body.
Ik'thik Terrorclaw - Sparkling, smoky Sha effect.
Coldbite Matriarch - Grey body, sha streaks come out of her eyes.
Amberscale Basilisk - Grey.
Furious Goat - Has the murky ground effect of the Sha tigers, coupled with sha 'spirals' that frequently float around it. Roam in packs, Sha must be up near the burlap trail, on the spawn point next to the hozen camp. Best advice is to hide behind him and trap a goat as they ride around -- you can kill the riders atop the goats without aggroing them. (Thank you Amber and Qi!)
* It should also be noted, as some have asked, that the Sha buff on the goats is NOT a damage or health buff in any sort of way. I've checked in triplicate, both on wowhead and in practice. He, frankly, probably hits for less that some of my other pets.

Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
Untested Pets (Dungeon) (WIP)
These pets are found in dungeons where it is impossible to duel, and thus making it very difficult to attempt taming as of 1/4/13 due to the nature of the current taming method. It can still be done, it is just considered harder.
Starving Hound - Gains a sleepy buff when finished eating their master. Also comes with a damage buff that increases damage when near other 'hounds', but it's unclear if this would matter when tamed and out in the world.
Angry Hound - 'Chained' Buff
Mutant War Hound - Noticeable green buff, diseased skin underneath
Giant Cave Bat - Black coat (confirmed to keep after death -- thanks Phyress!)
Not-Buffed Pets
Any pet that is holding/attached to a separate NPC (such as a rider)
ex: Twilight Firebird, Trained Jibberwing, Bullmastiffs with the foxes in their mouths, Thieving Wolves with sheep in their mouth.
Because there are two separate NPCs, the rider or extra will not be able to be tamed with the pet.
Timer-buffed Pets
Pets that have timers on their buffs, such as the Corrupted Bloodtalon in the troll starting zone, will only be buffed until their timer runs out. It will not refresh on your pet.
Damage Buffed Pets
I will not be listing any damage-buffed pets, regardless if these come with a special appearance, as these are clear exploits. These should not be attempted.
Fixed Pets
Garwal, the worgen-worg, is still untameable and highly unlikely to ever be tameable again.
The fire patch pets gotten through Sowing a Solution seem to be still out of reach due to some failsafe Blizzard coded in how the seeds work. These were also fixed due to their unclickable status and even if you managed taming one correctly, it would be a breach of ToS.

Thought Kung was a fragile pet? I may just have to pick him up on my troll hunter.

Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
In the original post, "It works, Sha aura effect pet", the duel method was not used. The non-duel method, kill/revive, may be the only way to get the 4 instanced beasts. It used to be:
1) tame beast normally of the same kind as the buffed one
2) dismiss
3) start tame of buffed beast, spam revive/abandon glitch macro
4) kill at end of tame
5) log out then back in
6) revive buffed beast
Not sure if this will work, the abandon macro with the new revive/no channel macro but Im willing to try for a few hours on the sleepy dogs.

Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
I mentioned this before, but I'm curious about the Giant Cave Bat in Mogu Place. It's in an instance, though.

I'll add it. Can you post a SS? Wowhead is lacking.WildcatTM wrote:I mentioned this before, but I'm curious about the Giant Cave Bat in Mogu Place. It's in an instance, though.

Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
Next time I'm in there, I will. I'll have to be in an instance group since I can't sneak pass the first encountered. They're basically an all black bat. Similar to the oil wolf.Dialga wrote:I'll add it. Can you post a SS? Wowhead is lacking.WildcatTM wrote:I mentioned this before, but I'm curious about the Giant Cave Bat in Mogu Place. Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
I was able to tame the tiger and crane while not in a duel. It seems my friend and I had more trouble while dueling for some reason! We just did the exact same thing, but always made sure to lower the mob's health to about 10% to be safe :]Rawr wrote:In the original post, "It works, Sha aura effect pet", the duel method was not used. Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
For what it's worth, for a few days, my goat had a friendly to me as Alliance Hozen riding around on him. o_O I got quite a few comments. We sent him to bartending school, though.

Re: Appearance Buffed Pets -- A Complete List
Yes, I've seen those goats.Technically the NPC can be tamed, but the Hozen is not -- it just turns friendly and jumps on your goat's back, and will attack what your goat attacks. It will disappear the instant you fly, accept a queue invite, dismiss the pet, change zones on a boat, ect so it's a very, very fragile pet. If your goat is killed, the Hozen will jump off and... sit there. I'm not even sure if he despawns. However since the Hozen is an extra damage source it is sort of a damage 'buff' and a bit of an unintentional, totally-Blizzard's-fault exploit.Novikova wrote:For what it's worth, for a few days, my goat had a friendly to me as Alliance Hozen riding around on him. o_O I got quite a few comments. He loses his buff when he dies in the wild, probably a fragile buff.
