For the sake of humor, I actually did go through the whole list of name-retaining pets to see which ones had the longest names. There's 50 pets out of 778 with English names consisting of 20 or more characters in their names, including spaces and punctuation. I doubt this is worth a resource page or even its own thread, but it's currently up to date with this thread and the search on the main site. Also listed some other fun ones that were worth mentioning; the shortest retained names and three names with unique aspects to them such as N.U.T.Z. having the most periods.

EDIT: I'll update the list another day once the discoveries are more or less done. No sense editing it every time one or two new ones are added, at least not in our current explorations before Shadowlands drops.

german players have the longest pet names:
Verirrter gilnearischer Kriegshund - 34 characters
Schwarzpanzer der Undurchdringliche - 35 characters

those were buggy and couldnt be tamed - since the pre-patch that bug is gone and they are now tamable

just for fun i will going through your list and write the longest german versions :D
Axetail Basilisk Matriarch - Matriarchin der Hackschwanzbasilisken - 26 into 37 characters
for example

and here is the list - nearly everytime the german name is longer

I know this thread hasn't been updated in awhile but I made an account on here just to say that Horridon does not keeps its name after taming. I just tamed it and it had the default "Direhorn" name.

Thanks for your report! Apparently we had an erroneous report that he kept his name. I've removed the flag and added him back to the suggestion list.

Has anyone recently check to see if Son of the Beast keeps his name? I know a few years ago he didn't.

Just checked Son of the Beast, and it does NOT keep its name still. Same with Ironbarb Skyreaver.

I've added Son of the Beast. Thanks. Ironbarb Skyreaver isn't rare and doesn't have a special-sounding name, do you think it should keep its name?

I feel it should, since it's part of a boss encounter. Plus, we've got generic sounding pet names, so it seems fair to consider it a possibility since it's a boss add. Much lower priority than others that should have names of course, but it's unique enough to be considered.

OK, added :)

There are just two one we haven't been able to check since 9.1: Junkyard D.0.G. and Bloodseeker.
UPDATE: Checked Junkyard D.0.G. - it doesn't retain its name. It's actually a generic creature there so maybe no reason for it to, other than a cool name. I'll leave it on the suggestions list.

Was just doing an Island Expedition run and found Bloodbore, the red python model. Turns out he is now tameable and retains his name. Doesn't make any noises on click.

That's great! Thanks for letting us know :) I've updated it.
