For Gryselde:
http://wow-petopia.com/look/sporebatyellow.html
And thanks for the offer Tyger, but I think someone beat you to it I use the random number generator http://www.random.org/, though, for future reference, and roll first the pet family, then a skin

I quite liked your white Plainstrider review, Cerah, especially the tame pic--it looks like your arms are mirroring the bird's wings
Swordoath--I'll be grabbing a couple of those later; as it stands I already tamed the hyena and had a look. Shall post a review soonish, thanks so much for the list
Loved the green tarantula troll vs dwarf roleplay tale, Cerah Could you remind me of the levels/pets of your chars so I can do a reroll for them?
For Anfitrite/Nakzal:

* * * * * *
Right, let me know if I missed anyone or made any mistakes. Meanwhile, two gentle reminders:
* When you ask for an assignment or a reroll, please post what pets you have/have had, even if you have done so before. I just can't remember everyone's pets, and will end up assigning many duplicates.
* If you want to do this, PLEASE post an actual review of the pet. This is what makes it interesting! A couple of paragraphs, a screenshot or two--just to get an idea of your reaction to the random pet and its various aspects.
Also, another request: If you're wanting an assignment for a lowbie, please specify whether you're willing to venture into enemy turf. If I know whether you thrive on challenge or are doing this casually for laughs, then I know whether to assign a moth to a tauren lowbie, or The Rake to a Night Elf.
Thanks guys!

Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
It's a little known fact that a red raptor was the very first pet Aldera tamed, several years ago, when she had to walk 15 miles uphill both ways to the hunter trainer in Orgrimmar. So it was a bit of a homecoming as she walked outside Orgrimmar to once again capture the heart of a lone Bloodtalon Scythemaw. Sadly, this was not her long-lost Rawr, and the raptor just didn't seem fitting with any other name.
(Aldera and her raptor companion, taking a pause in the week-long hunt for Nuramoc)
The first thing I noticed was how quickly the raptor killed its prey. I had a number of quests to complete in the Storm Peaks, so I set out with my new companion to see how he would fare. And he does quite well. Most of my raiding hunter buddies say a raptor is one of the top pets right now, and I can see why. The only downside is that his debuff doesn't get as much use when the mobs die fast. He did gain at least one level by the time I was done with Storm Peaks.
The other thing that I did almost right away with him was Headless Horseman. Our tank got plagued by the disconnect bug, but someone started the event anyway, and next thing I know, the poor raptor was tanking. Sadly, he wasn't able to tank for too long, and the Horseman quickly saw to it that the poor raptor was put out of commission. But the raptor must've had a bit of luck to him, because I got the mount on that very attempt!
I did run one heroic (AN I believe), but it's hard to measure performance really. My gear is that of a new 80 and as such, I'm pretty much resigned to the bottom of the group in dps (but fortunately, I had a group that understood... not always something you come across with fresh alts). He seemed to hold out alright, but I'm a little rusty on the instance scene.
The one offputting thing was that his color scheme is really, really stark. Pretty much anywhere but Icecrown, he's a very very bold red color. And that honestly led me to eventually push him to the back in favor of my Cliff Jumper. There was just a connection that wasn't there. I can see myself getting a grey raptor from WC (I had one back in vanilla) or maybe one of the black outland models, but the red just wasn't cutting it. So tonight, I set him free again, to hopefully be a faithful companion to a future Orc or Troll (or even Night Elf... I suppose).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you get around to it, I would like a new pet to try out.
Aldera: Level 80 BM hunter
Current Stables: Arcturis, Gondria, Grub'thor, Aotona, dark blue (black?) classic style wind serpent, Nuramoc, Old Cliff Jumper, Shy Rotam, Sian Rotam, red core hound, orange (red?) owl (Avian Ripper), and a black leopard with white spots (Twilight Runner)
The one thing I would ask is no Loque, Skoll, or Krush. I'm on a super high pop server, so finding these is a nightmare (to the extent that I've never seen a wild Skoll, and haven't seen loque since about 2 days after wrath launched... two years ago). They're on my list of pets to get, but would not be easy to get for a more short-term experiment such as this.
(Edit: Also, I'm sorry... not quite sure how to shrink down the image...)
Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
I'm not that big of a fan of this wasp model, they just look like giant flies or something to me for some reason. Their dps is pretty average in a random; I imagine that their stun could be put to good use anywhere you might need CC.
Anywho, here's a couple of screenies:
Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
Autumnshots: Lvl 80 Alliance BM/Suv
Has: Loque, The Beast, Krush, Oil-Stained Wolf, Arcturis, Disembodied Jormungar, Uhk'loc, Silithid Creeper, Springpaw Stalker and Centipaar Sandreaver.
Had: Needles Cougar
I don't mind repeats of the same beast with a different skin, I am also willing to go into Horde territory on this toon.
Crayoneater: lvl 22+ Horde BM
Has: Mazzranache, Echeyakee and the purple tallstrider that Taurens start out with.
Had: Venomtail Scorpid
I know only being lvl 22 doesn't leave many options for this, so a higher leveled one is fine since I seem to be leveling fast with the RaF system. Tho unlike Autumn, Crayon is on a separate account that only has Vanilla attached, so only human,dwarf,nelf,/tauren,orc,undead areas please.
Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
The trip turned out to be longer and harder than ever, after the recent changes to stop people from corpserunning past dangerous areas. Kainda, the ghostly white Tauren Hunter, still took the challenge to venture deep into Alliance territory with a more familiar companion from Mulgore.
Along the way, Kainda decided to switch into something that would fit better into the woody area however, to avoid attracting too much attention with the powerful male lion.
The black and white tiger also served as a guide through the forests of Duskwood and all the way to the outskirts of Darnassus, where the two finally separated.
After numerous battles at the Rut'Theran portal the determined Tauren's spirit finally found its way to a more out of the way graveyard, where she could talk to a friendly Spirit Healer once more to recover her aching corpse. Nothing, however could've prepared her for what she was about to see...
Kainda soon found herself at the edge of a strange-smelling forest, mere yards from yet another Night Elf settlement. This time she was in luck however, as she was able to slip into the foreign forest unseen. In the forest the Tauren was greeted with a beautiful sight: dark sabercats with white spots, bright green spiders of type she'd never seen before, and most importantly, what she'd come for - owls with smoky grey feathers, flying just beyond reach. Kainda carefully picked one of the faster flyers and started to lure the beast down with sounds and gestures her mother had once taught her.
I'm already getting extremely attached with this cutie, and am slowly building a story of these two living and hunting together. ^^
Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
Cerah, lvl 80 Orc BM
Toeph, lvl 23 Tauren SV
As you can see, Toeph has both a tallstrider and a crab already. Could she get something different please?
Leata, lvl 20 Dwarf MM
Again, please no duplicate pets (if I have the skin on one hunter, I don't want it on another), or pets of the same family (i.e. no more crabs on toeph, raptors on Cerah, etc.) Exotics (for Cerah) and rares are fine. I'll take Alliance zone pets (or Horde zone for Leata), providing they're not impossibly difficult to get to without help ( i.e. Cerah can take out the Aurberdine guards -- Toeph can't).
Whew! I think that covers everything. Thanks again!
Re: Random Pet Challenge: Stepping Out of the Box!
... while Taizak was assigned the blue condor.
I tamed one of these briefly on Taizak, but I didn't give it much of a chance, so rather than asking for a reroll I decided to give ol' cranky Griselda another try. Cailan's vulture, however, was something I'd never tamed before. I forgot to get a good shot of his colors in the darkness, but I did get one or two in the light. He was much more attractive during the day. His brown feathers were lighter and a bit more orange, while his purple feathers were recognizably purple and not just an odd dark band across his wings. His blue eyes were very striking against the rest of him.
I have a general dislike of old world vultures, because their faces are so ridiculous, but I found this one surprisingly attractive. I chose the Young Fleshripper from Westfall because I decided that for what little time I intended to keep him, he would be the product of Trachela's time spent in the stable with a handsome young Bonestripper Buzzard and in need of a few last hours of maternal care before he sets off into the world. Why not?
Griselda's colors also changed according to the lighting, and, like with the brown vulture, I vastly preferred her in brighter settings. When I got a shot of her in the Dalaran stables, she was a very drab grey:
But when she was targeted or brought out into the light, she brightened up significantly.
I loved the shading on her wings, very detailed, and her face tickled me because she just looked so puffy and grumpy, but the longer I looked at her, the less I liked her model. Because of the black feathers at the base and the strong backward curve, her wings looked like they attached at her middle and not at her shoulder, which made her body look less like a bird's and more like a worm's. Still, I was determined to give her a try, so off we went to Sholazar Basin to bond over the ruthless slaughter of gorillas, mammoths, etc.
Meanwhile, back with Cailan and the hatchling...
I didn't like his swimming animation at all. The end of every flap had his wings moving all the way back so that the tips of them were touching, which is not at all a natural-looking motion for a bird, and the start of each flap moved his wings ahead so I could see that they're apparently attached by about an inch of flesh. Not a pleasant affair. Griselda's animation was exactly the same as her flying animation, so no need for a shot of that.
It was around this time that I got tired of taking screenshots and decided to just go ahead with it, so onto the fighting! They both did fair damage, nothing to write home about, but not bad. Again, Griselda came out on top, for her quick, smooth battle animations, where the hatchling fell behind due to his falling back into the same hovering position every time he landed a hit. I didn't do any randoms with either of them, mostly because I still don't trust myself with focus, but I got Griselda a couple levels... sadly, the poor hatchling didn't even get one. Despite being pleasantly surprised by his look, I found that overall, he just didn't agree with me. We parted ways in Hellfire Peninsula, where I'm sure he'll live a happy life scavenging corpses and whatnot.
Having released the hatchling into the wild, I returned to Taizak and Griselda, intending to take on a high-level elite... specifically, the exiled giant in Storm Peaks. I didn't expect to do very well, since Griselda was not yet max level, but I was perfectly happy to die trying. And the result?
Victory! She wasn't very good at holding aggro off of me, but as long as I kept Mend Pet up and didn't do TOO much damage, she made a fairly decent tank. Not too shabby! Overall, I was much more impressed with Griselda than the hatchling. In looks and in animation, she was vastly superior, and I might even keep her a while longer to see how she clicks. Thanks for making me give her another shot, Acherontia! For now, at least, I have a new addition to my stables.
Taizak, I didn't know you where on these forums! I see you in Dalaran all the time and have to do a double take because our characters are exactly the same except for the tusks.
