Not A Pet But PTR Can Be Funny...
See? Imagine *that* coming at you in PVP! Maybe it's a good thing hydras aren't tameable.
But also, I happened to be in the right place at the right time for a frenzy migration...
I'd swear there was a GM out there somewhere doing it just to muck with me. Just.... all of a sudden, up and over the island. o.O
Ah well. Back to checking skins!

I remember in Vanilla on my hunter I had just started Stonetalon Mountains and noticed a basilisk and I really really wanted it as a pet so I dismissed mine and attempted to tame one but alas they weren't tameable. I really wish basilisks were ;_;Acherontia wrote:I've also noticed a lot of basilisks changing color into ones I haven't seen (through Live patches, not currently PTR). I'm wondering, do you think this points to basilisks & hydras becoming tameable?

I did some other checking while I was in the zone; sadly, there are still only three colors of sporebats, unless the instance ones have changed.

I suspect you may see more unused/lost skins appear on beasts from untameable families, and some of them changed to beasts that were wrongly set as other things, but don't get your hopes up of taming them too soon I see it more as a clean up at this stage... ensuring everything is in place for if they do ever become tameable and also ensuring more variety in the appearance of creatures that are out there and correcting wrongly classed things. Plus Mragesh should never have been an old world hydra. All the Outland ones picked on him mercilessly. At least now if hydras do become a tameable family there's only two skins missing from the game now: old world green and bronze, both sadly lost when Azshara was overrun with rats er goblins (and one more green when ZG was gutted). Hopefully we'll see them back well before they become tameable (if they become tameable.. I have no inside knowledge that they will! )Acherontia wrote:I've also noticed a lot of basilisks changing color into ones I haven't seen (through Live patches, not currently PTR). There aren't any more hidden in the database, so I'm not too hopeful of that. When the art is already done it's trivial to switch to a new skin. Unfortunately the artists of that time weren't inclined to (or didn't have time to) create many sporebat coloursKalliope wrote:He looks quite tough now!

Yeah, that was what I had figured. :/ But hey, there's always the possibility, right? I mean, they're a tamable species with only three options, the fewest of ANY family, so it might be worth the investment of time/effort just for one new skin, just to make four the minimum for any family. Still, not holding my breath on it; was just hoping.Wain wrote:There aren't any more hidden in the database, so I'm not too hopeful of that. Maybe they should have been grouped with nether rays in a single flying-pancake family.Kalliope wrote:Yeah, that was what I had figured. :/ But hey, there's always the possibility, right? I vote that frenzies get added to the flying pancake pet family as well!Wain wrote:Maybe they should have been grouped with nether rays in a single flying-pancake family.Kalliope wrote:Yeah, that was what I had figured. :/ But hey, there's always the possibility, right? Hee, flying pancakes! Possibly. That would certainly have been more practical. But I love how their family abilities are very distinct from each other - and the sporebat one is completely unique, since it's the only AoE casting debuff.Wain wrote:Maybe they should have been grouped with nether rays in a single flying-pancake family.Kalliope wrote:Yeah, that was what I had figured. :/ But hey, there's always the possibility, right? Another possibility would be expanding both families with some sorts of ray-like beasties. Something Vashj'ir related, perhaps!
