The Big Red (model change; not a pet)

Unread post by Kurasu »

It seems that hunter pets aren't the only ones getting brand new skins:

Banthar seems to have gotten a bit of a makeover, in a totally different shade. Which begs the question: is this just to 'spice things up', or are they filling out the ranks for potential other tameable groups?

Oh my....that does seem like an extremely random change considering Banthar's an old Outland quest mob and really didn't need a different colour. Hmm...was the white model used anywhere else?

Very interesting...

EDIT: Actually, Banthar was the only mob to use the White Clefthoof skin, and Brokentoe already used the Red....so they just got rid of a colour in sense. o_O

*Blinks* That is a very random, if not somewhat unneeded, change... Provided they aren't cooking up something for clefthooves down the line. Perhaps this is the possible beginnings of making them join the Rhino family and, maybe, putting the white skin on a new rarespawn?

Actually, Brokentoe's red is a different shade tha nthis one. This is more of a reddish brown. Brokentoe, on the other hand, used a red and black skin. They're similar, but not completely different.

I haven't checked all the other clefthooves yet; once people were reporting rares, I went back toward Felwood to return to my search there. :)

There is a logic behind this, and it's related to the possibility of them becoming tameable one day ;) (and I say "possibility" as it's just that).

Banthar now has the one clefthoof skin that was missing from the game (or it wasn't entirely missing.. it's on a colour-changer tamed one that is friendly to Horde). This skin makes her look flashier and more in her prime.

Decrepit Clefthoofs in Terokkar get her old grey skin since it fits them better. It makes them look old and dying. Their previous skin made them look like they were younger and healthier. So now all skins are covered :)

Ooh, that makes more sense then. Thanks for clearing that up Wain. :) And silly me for getting the red skins mixed up...I guess it's been a long time since I fought Brokentoe.

Good to know! :D I was a bit disappointed that she'd lost her lovely white skin, but as long as it's still around, that's good! :D Now that I've actually seen the picture of her, I'm getting used to it. ;) (Also, it kinda fits the origin of her name, heeeee.)

Flew in to check, and sure enough: all the Decrepit Clefthooves in Terokkar are mini-Banthers now. And it's true: they definitely *do* look more like an 'old and dying' model like that. Definitely a good change. :)

Well. I am officially excited about something again, assuming they do eventually join the ranks. I just love the cuddly, fluffy, uglier than all heck beasties. It is now Zoidberg's turn to win!

Interestingly the name of the grey skin is "CleftHooveTerokkar", suggesting it was intended for the Decrepit Clefthooves when it was made (they're the only type in that zone). Wonder why that didn't happen.

Maybe because Banthar looked quite striking with the skin as well? Or maybe it was just an oversight.

This. White just seemed to fit Banthar as I saw her as an old/aged clefthoof that was to old to continue breeding but lively and strong enough to continue leading her herd since no bull was strong enough to contest her.

Mean I like the skin- and I like the fact this could be a precourser to clefties and hydra's tamable. But it's just wierd she suddenly goes from white to red ...

Perhaps we can just say it's Banthar 2, and the first is officially dead thanks to Nessingwary.

*nod* Same here, I always imagined Banthar as the old matriarch of the clefthooves there, so the white was a perfect fit.

Banthar, son of Banthar!

Or maybe it's her, but she's been eating healthier. :D

I like the thought that it is her daughter taking over after nesingwary killed her mom. :)

Well not the thought of her being dead, but you get what I mean.

I'm glad they didn't get rid of the white skin completely. If they do eventually make Clefthooves tamable (PLEASE!!!!) then I'll be heading straight to the white ones. :->
I want a Clefthoof so much... Once I realized I loved Rhinos, I realized I could deal with any kind of ugly. xD
