I often don't trust Wiki as far as Pronunciation goes, and there is a long, horrible, yet terribly funny to a third party, story that goes with that... But I have always heard it pronounced Wih-Vern, and growing up around a DnD-crazy, Mythology-loving, Book-enthusiastic father, I don't believe he was pronouncing it wrong, though I could be proven wrong?

Looking around a bit more, it does seem like "wih-vern" is a pretty recognized alternative pronunciation, so maybe we're all right in this thread?
