4.1 Interesting Places...

(Update: further down the thread, find more information about the updates to the subzone "The Steam Pools" too!)

There's a very cool place in Tirisfal Glades right now, found here. It's a forest where there used to be blank space west of the Forsaken starting area. There's a lake with a dead fisherman (his tackle box & chair are still there, as is his back-stabbed skeleton), a forest, and a mysterious mushroom ring in the center of it.

I happened upon it on the PTR, and it's been updated. It's quite possible that it's meant to be part of a quest chain; as it is now, I can't make heads nor tails of it.

Basically, the ring looks like this:

There are, however, several faerie dragons (level 83-85, called Fey-Drunk Darter) flying about. Now and then, they gather and begin to "sing" (musical notes float forth from their bodies, although there's no sound), and the grove turns green, leaves and "energy" flowing upwards:

There are also several brown stags racing through the area, as well as families of brown stag + diseased doe(s) and diseased fawn(s). They're named Tirisfal Stag etc, and are level 80-82, with the fawns at 10-12.

Image

I've also found a new tameable there, but old skin: Tirisfal Bear, level 82 white diseased bear--see post below for screenshot.

Beautiful stuff, eh?

The ring of mushrooms is almost certainly a reference to hallucinogenic mushrooms, what with the weirdness happening with the faerie dragons. That, or I'm being too cynical.

Regardless, that's a really neat find! That singing event ought to make a great stage for some screenshots, although I can't think of any specific ideas right now.

Pretty yes but odd O.o I wonder why it is there.

It makes me think of a faerie ring from some cultures, and may or may not be based off it, nice find!

Edit: Veph beat me to it.

Fascinating stuff, though; I'd never heard of a faerie ring! :O It sounds awesome!

Found BEARS there too! Well, one bear, a tameable diseased white Tirisfal Bear, level 82.

Nope :P

If anyone goes here, could you do me a favor?

Go to the Silverpine border, and find that level 82 Tirisfal Bear. Look at it.

Do YOU lag out entirely while near it? O.o

This is in the test realm right? I would if I could.

Yah.

I tested it now myself by taming the bear to remove him from the area. With him out elsewhere, I don't lag, but when I'm in his area (mounted), I lag. For some reason, the area he patrols in (the edge of the Tirisfal Faerie Zone, overlooking the Skittering Dark) lags me to hell : /

Also, there's some rather bright blue-green plants beneath some of the trees. I could totally be overthinking it, but they almost look like objects for a gathering quest o.o Maybe to make a salve to heal the animals?

It's Smokey's lesser-known and chronically ill cousin, Laggy!

Rofl :D

I thought of another neat place I'd found after the Shattering, if anyone wants to visit it. There's quite a few bizarre or pretty ones, but this is a personal favorite.

Between Mulgore, Feralas, Thousand Needles and the Barrens is a wide, long barrier subzone. It now has a large lake with tauren structures, very picturesque.

It used to be part of a stretch leading to a "nonzone" (meaning when summoned on a flying mount, you could fly there), the end of which now contains a huge lake with an island in the middle; this island has burning buildings and tons of cats and Alliance npcs (friendly to all). No explanation to that one, either (the island/lake in question can be found between Desolace and Feralas).

Update: The Steam Pools (subzone between Silithus & Feralas) now have a goblin-run resort.

There are tons of Resort Guests that you can talk to, of all races. There are three Riding Mammoths with goblin handlers being washed down at one of the pools, and a dock & riverboat on the shore, as well as sunbathing guests. There is also a small oil works to one side.

As far as beasts: there are neutral ivory crabs, called King Crawlers, and hostile Greater Rocs (the reddish-brown vulture), both of which are level 83-84, and neither of which are tameable.

The Oil section also has similarly-levelled hostile slimes.

I wondered if they would do anything with that area next to Tirisfal. Glad it seems they are. Likewise with the steam pools. I certainly hope they add filling to all those inbetween areas around Azeroth, there are plenty that have enough space to be used for new towns and quest hubs. Especially ones that require the use of flying in Azeroth to get to. I've always wanted to be able to add my own town into one of them.

Just visited the old Stonetalon Construction Site. Nothing's changed since the Shattering--still a forest--but there's some critters I never noticed, namely Mountain Skunk and Mule Deer (doe) critters.
