*Agrees with Saturo* Our poor, abused Wyverns. Their wings are so wacked out that Blizz just gave up and made them shrink like crazy when they land. O.o

I so rarely use a wyvern as a flying mount that I had to go look at it in model viewer. XD The wings do fold up pretty bad when they land.

Yeah. Me too. They look so stupid with them. They look just fine without them.

Oh god yeah, I remember the first time the flying mounts were shown and I saw the wyvern model. I was like "poor Horde, that isn't right". Old model aside, the wyvern/windrider (whatever WoW calls them cause I dont think those are real wyverns technically? lmao idk) looks cool, but that armor is ugly as original sin @_@

Wyverns? I think you mean poorly designed and animated flying Manticores... ;)

Yeah, they're not really Wyverns. Wyvern typically = Two-legged, large-winged dragon without arms. Reptilian.
Manticore = Human-faced, lion-bodied beast with either a scorpion or a snake tail. They're sometimes shown with bat or dragon-like wings.

Yeah, I've always thought the wind riders more resembled manticores than wyverns. Dunno why I got into the habit of calling the wind riders wyverns.

Because of WoW. WoW refers to them as both "Windriders" and "Wyverns". Thats why everyone calls them that.

If you ever try to /pvp a Horde flightmaster, the Windriders that attack you are called "Enraged Wyverns". Or if you go to Dragonblight, there's a bunch of NPCs atop "Kor'kron Battle Wyverns". Meanwhile your flying mounts for the Horde (with the exact same model) are called "Wind Riders".

Poor, poor wind riders. There is so much potential and they are just... so broken. I know if I was alliance, I would still use a gryphon frequently but wind riders are the main reason I started Netherwing as soon as possible. I had my drake at level 76 and haven't been on a wind rider since.

My love for the lore behind the wyverns is enough for me to ignore the model. :>

Also traditionally these beasts are called wyverns but I suppose it's interchangeable nowadays - wind riders are people who have trained with a wyvern(or gryphon, in the case of a Wildhammer) to the point where they are essentially aerial infantry/scouts/snipers/whatever and they have a very, very close tie to their mount, allowing them to see through their eyes and communicate with them. The most elite wind riders become windwarriors, who can recall their mounts into a totem and are more or less essentially air-bound. Granted not every joe who hops on the back of a wyvern is a wind rider - it takes years of practice to learn to fight on the back of something flying. Possibly why we don't have mounted combat. ;P

Wyverns are very protective of their young despite their loyalty to the Horde, and eggs and cubs usually have to be stolen and raised from birth - hence why a bond between a(normally Orc) windwarrior and his or her wyvern is so close. In the case of Trolls it may be bats, dragonhawks for Blood Elves, hippogryphs for Night Elves and so on. Despite being allowed to ride them in game, wyverns can't actually hold a Tauren - they do have a mutual respect for each other regardless, though.

Nerdery aside, I would like to see a model update but it doesn't bother me all that much. The flymask was implemented a little funnily in that it actually impairs the sight rather than an actual flymask which barely does anything, but...eh, I don't spend hours staring at my wyvern's face. :P

Fff it looks awesome.

Different lighting - that's showing the shadowed side, which looks bluer. The lighting in this game is actually really spectacular.

Yeah, I can see several bugs with the wings already... I like it too much though!

Yah, I think they made them look and walk different because Wyverns are a type of dragon and they didn't want anyone with a dragon as faction mount. Wyvern is a legendary winged reptilian creature with a dragon's head, the hindquarters of a snake or lizard with two legs or none, and a barbed tail that's poisonous (like a scorpion) and breath fire through their noses (never the mouth like dragons) Manticore a legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx, it has the body of a red lion, a human head with three rows of sharp teeth (like a shark) and it may be horned, winged, or both. The tail is that of either a dragon or a scorpion, and it may shoot poisonous spines to either paralyze or kill

My guess is just different lighting. While traveling throughout most of Azeroth, I find that the lighting in the different zones themselves effects that in which my mounts looks substantially, especially those with special lighting effect such as flames, etc.
