Recap (pics) of Challenge Mode Armour Sets

Unread post by Wain »

In case anyone missed it, MMO-Champ have a recap of all the Challenge Mode sets, here: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/932 ... Armor-Sets

Some of them, I think, are very beautiful. Some are ok, but perhaps a bit safe/predictable. And only two I really didn't like. The two classes I play, of course ;)

The DK one is odd because it's kinda light for a DK. But I like that it surprises me. And I do like that the helm has kind of a bug face look.

The Rogue is probably my favourite. I don't go much for asymmetrical shoulders but that cloud serpent is just stunning!

And I love the Pally wings :)

The druid one looks meh, don't like the shoulders, but the effects have a nice azure-green colour.
The warlock one looks amazing!

Amazing: warlock, shaman, paladin (on a tauren <3)
Ok: druid, dk, monk, warrior
Horrible: hunter (of course), mage, rogue, priest.

DK: 7/10
Dat helm... Cthulhu, is that you?

Druid: 8/10
Just because it's not a shammy set. I'd sooo love it on my upcomming panda jade-shammy.
Smehow I don't see it on a druid, though :P

Hunter: 1/10 (unless you're an orc)
So... you thought you've chosen a race? Doesn't matter, you're an orc now.
If I wanted to play one, I wouldn't have made a dwarf >.>

Mage: 1/10
Lol wut?

Monk: 9/10
100% perfect for a brewmaster, more than ok for other specs.

Paladin: 9/10
The light incarnated. I already see it on my pally. /droll
If only the 'mouth' didn't look that 'buggy'...

Priest: 8/10
Holy churchy thingie. Not very 'something' though.

Rogue: 10/10
Now backstabbing with even more baddarshness. How do I hate them...

Shaman: 4/10
Yo, so I herd you liek totems... although I guess some may like it this way.

Warlock: 10/10
So you think you can Illidian?
99/10 if your lock is a gnome XD

Warrior: 7/10
Ok, I guess. Nothing too distinctive, but warriory enough.

I really like the Paladin and Druid sets, but imo the Mage set isn't too bad either; it'll look great on my gnome. However, the class I intended to be my very first 90...Hunter of course....has the set I like the least. Awesome. The wolf head on the shoulder is a neat touch, but the rest is just so...blah.

A note about me: I'm not a fan of non-symmetrical sets most of the time, which is why I don't care for the Monk, Rogue, and Warrior sets at this time. I'd give the Monk set a 6/10 just because of the shoulders.

Also, it seems the Belt on the Shaman set agrees with me on how the set looks. My shaman is a female draenei, but I hate skimpy transmogs, so if I did get that set I'd have to find a matching chest that isn't a bikini top.

I don't know what is with the obsession of giant belts. First we had the Wrath pro wrestler belts and now these GIANT belt buckles. Shoulders have been overdone since the dawn of game, but it seems they found a new place to put random furniture and junk... :O

Shaman looks awful to me personally, and I'm sorta "eh" with the lock.

Do like the DK/pally sets though. :)

I actually really like the mage outfit after looking for a bit. I mean, yeah. It's goofy. But you know what *I* see when I see the outfit?

I really like the mage and druid gear. Hunter outfit still goes past me with a big: meh, boring.
The warlock one though...looks like all the warlocks will have painfull necks. Looks so topp heavy.

I'm so sorry, I am dying here in laughter. Those belt buckles! ON MALES!

Edit:After wiping tears from my eyes, I had a sudden thought. Wasn't that supposed to be the pvp gear and the cool feathery hat gear the challenge gear? Did they swap 'em around?

They did. It's a real shame, because the feather-hat set for hunters really was MADE to be the challenge mode gear. The two sets looked like they were meant for thir respective roles, and Blizzard done switched them. :/

Someone at blizzard decided that Wolfy pvp-set was just more detailed, so clearly it needed to be the challenge set or something. It's annoying enough that I almost don't want to help my friends get their challenge mode sets, because I really don't want my own.

I mean, I'm supposed to be a beast master, who bonds with animals. How do I do that with a REALISTIC WOLF HEAD on my shoulder!? How garish!

I love the mage set, Shame that my boyfriend would probably have to play the dungeons on his paladin to tank. I'd do Druid or Death Knight to help his mage, but, I don't really like those sets either. D:

Well, snap!

I agree, as a BM hunter it IS a little weird to me. Though, the other half of me rejoices at easily obtaining the feathery hat gear easier. Though, I seriously want to do challenge modes >.>

Maybe the little bear shoulders from the troll instances would be less "I KILL ANIMALS" and more "I LIKE PLUSHIES"???? Either way, I agree lol as nit picky as it is, I agree!

dat buckle. *snickers*

Oh my, I see the similarity too.

I think most of the sets look okay, but the rogue one is really nice.
It's just a shame the helmet on the paladin set looks a bit too big. I'm so glad my paladin ain't a blood elf female anymore. GIANT bucket or what?

Well you guys are finding it to be garish while some people that hunt animals IRL would probably be like "COOL!" hunters do you know, hunt. xD

We've just embraced its nature friendly side to the point where most of you seem to think of them in the same vein as druids.

To be fair, I think it perfectly fitting for MM hunters :) we both specified that it specifically didn't fit, in our opinions, with beast mastery *nod*

I'm well aware hunters hunt, since I hunt myself ;D which is why I think it most fitting for MM (and reiterating my being super nit picky)

Well, I take this from our actual description on the character creation screen:

"Gains beasts of your choice as lifelong companions" and "...have a special affinity for beasts".

I mean, sure, races like the Tauren hunt for the sake of hunting once you're in game and do quests, but when you're on that screen it's focusing more on ANIMALS ARE OUR FRIENDS WHEE than anything else, and that's not even the beast-mastery specific text.

Personally I love the hunter set, especially for BM! To me, hunters are suppose to be decked out in animal skins and bits, and more so i would think for a BM who is so closely linked with animals that they would feel the need to "look" more like an animal.

Not if they're REAL animal bits...

I'm not trying to terrify animals, here. Now, OTHER PEOPLE, sure, I could see this. What better way to show you mean business in PvP than to rip a wolf's head clean off and strap it to your shoulder to strike terror into that mage...

(which brings me back to an earlier point: This set was MADE FOR PVP. WHY DID THEY CHANGE THIS?)

All this said, it's still better looking than our tier 14...

(I'm not being a hippy dippy animal lover here, it's just a little jarring to see them actually doing an ANIMAL set for a hunter after, what. Dragons? Untameable. Nerubians? Untameable. Wolf? c-c-c-combo breaker. Where's my set that looks like a nether ray? Not made out of a REAL nether ray mind you. :P)

They all suck except for Hunter, Mage, and Warlock.

I love the look of the wolf set. Better than anything Wrath or Cata gave us.

Warlock is very Illidany. And the Hunter set is just great!
Although I only have one wolf in my stable, and he doesn't have a great bond with me, I still figure he'd be a little freaked out at the shoulder.
But I still love the set.

I don't suppose anybody's seen any of these sets in person in the Beta yet? I've been waiting to update my armor model post with the new challenge mode models, but the WoWhead model viewer is giving me this when I try to view them...it looks like it's trying to apply the textures from the feathered hat gear to the wolf-shoulder models, and the results aren't pretty.
