Day of the dead is like the Mexican version of hallowe'en...either that or where hallowe'en came from.

Yes and no. What that article (not suprisingly) leaves out is that the current Day of the Dead is really the Catholic church's adaptation of the existing cultural events, tying them to All Saint's Day. Also the catholic-based european cultures have their on take on this in "All Hallowed Eve". or Halloween.

But it's to some degree just another variation of ancestor worship that you see in almost any culture.
