see, my mind went further back to the less known "Demikid" games ^^ Merging monsters in that was fun.

Reminded me of Monster Rancher.

DQM is/was my first thought because it's my obsession. In fact, the only complete FAQ for it on GameFAQs is by this guy called 'Kurasu'.

I... wish I could say that the thought of pet combining/breeding upset me the way my first gut reaction to 'Pet'omon' did. But I'd be lying if I said that. I'm very, very curious to see what gets done with it.

I think the whole vanity pet thing is going over the top. (hundreds of pets and half of them look the same? pets are not as special as they used to be.) Of course I did kind of enjoy collecting them all since it did give me something to do...
I'm not crazy about the breeding idea but I tend to make my gold off of selling vanity pets so if I can sell these for good money, I will shut my mouth and rake in the coins.

Isn't this a bit odd, some pets are mechanical or undead. That seems unlikely to be a creature with the ability to breed.

ok WHY are people using the word "Breed" the post it says:

Current plan is you can merge two pets of the same family and pick the breed. Doing this gives chance at epic.

Guessing for "pick the breed" would be either of the merged pet's breed. ex crow+Gull= either crow OR gull, you pick which.

Well it's WoW's version of breeding. Nothing wrong with that.

It's more the context its used in...it wouldn't be breed these two pets and get this pet. it would be merge these two and get this pet...you would lose the "parents" as they would combine to become the new pet. in the context of breeding, its sounds like people don't understand that the parents would no longer exist...

I am just not sure people understand that part of it.

In a lot of games where pets are merged, or combined, it ends up being called 'breeding'. Monster Rancher has the same 'combination' thing going on, and it still often gets called breeding. And since WoW pets have a gender, it's even easier to think of it as breeding, even if that ends up not being what it's like.

Also, in Dragon Quest Monsters, it's called 'breeding', yet you lose the old parents, and you can 'breed' undead and materials. *And* anything can crossbreed with anything else. So for me, the term 'breeding' doesn't seem too 'out there'. But again, as said above, I'm a DQM fanatic.

Plus, as said above, since no one knows what it's like yet, they're using the Pokemon terminology. Since no one can deny that it's Pokemon. Under a ifferent name.

But the entire MoP -is- Pokemon. Even the rival is called Gary
