Taming Ban on the PTR?

After messing around bit more on the PTR and my Gnome hunter I got Mount Hyjal done to the point I could see the three spirit beasts wanting to see how it will be trying to tame them and what I learned isn't pretty. Magria and Ankha are simple just walk up and hit tame beast but Ban is going to be a pain having no way I know of to agro without killing unless when it goes live we will have better ways. I am wondering if anyone has gotten Ban on PTR and how did you do it cause when I tried to tame I killed him.

Did you try equipping very low level gear (or getting naked) and pull him that way?

Did you try equipping a lowbie weapon/only using a shot that does no damage? That's worked for me in the past.

Normally I would use tranquilizing shot cause it didn't hurt him but come Legion BM doesn't have it anymore but when PTR is back up I am going to see if up again and use low level weapon and get my cute Gnome nekkie lol.

If you're good with disengage (or have a slow fall item/friend) you could try using the new item/toy that "mortally wounds without killing," unless that has a cast time since it has to be used in melee range. That'd involve flying up above him, using it when you're in melee range, and disengaging before you hit the ground so you don't die. I forget the name of it, wasn't able to find it on wowhead, and am getting chain DCd from beta so I can't actually look (not sure if maintenance is going on right now or if it's a fantastic new mac-specific bug as soon as things are made release candidates :x) but I think it was sold by the toy vendors in Stormwind/Orgrimmar.

In my experience level 85 mobs still die in one or two hits even unarmed and naked at 100, let alone 101-110. When I was trying to complete Uldum on my warrior I ended up taking res sickness and naked-punching ghosts out in the southern part of the zone and I was STILL having trouble wounding without killing.

The toy is called Soft Foam Sword, but it has a cast time and requires melee range. If you need reliable slow fall, then tame a sacrifical rylak (probably bring a couple of spares, in case you have to try more than once). Keep it on passive, and keybind its Updraft ability. Just spam that until you are firmly on the ground again. For your tame macro, include a PetAbandon() line. I'm not sure how the new "you're running a script" warning works, so you may need to disable that temporarily. I'll explain the /run line with references, so you know this isn't a scheme. Never do a /run line if you don't know what it does and why.
This will not ask for confirmation, so be very careful! The following macro will execute your active Rylak pet permanently.

/tar Ban
/cast [nopet] Tame Beast
/stopmacro [nopet:Rylak]
/run PetAbandon()

PetAbandon() abandons hunter pets without asking for confirmation. The game normally calls it after you give confirmation to abandon your pet, it has nothing to do with chat functions. And since it's the only thing on the line, you can tell it's not overwriting other functions to turn your warcraft client into a slave.

I keep forgetting that toy will exist! That is also a fabulous idea. Ditto the res sickness. That's a huge damage penalty. The rylak is an even better bonus!

Well if I strip off all my mythic gear and use a lvl 85 bow I can nab him on live (thanks ally Hunters for not sniping me while I did that )

Thank you for the idea about the foam sword when the realms came up found I had one already so I am now sitting on a tree with it on my bars waiting for Ban to appear to try again.

(on beta) I wasn't able to use the sword while falling due to the cast. Wyvern sting can be cast while falling, but it doesn't aggro a neutral mob once it wears off.

Whatever we use to pull Ban, it has to be usable while falling, aggros, and not 1-shot it. At 110, completely naked, I melee punched mobs at that level for way more than their HP is.

I also can't tame anything on beta in any spec. the cast finishes with no interruption, but it says "I can't do that right now." Nothing ends up in call pet.

Since we can fly there, is it possible to get on the tree or post or whatever it was, mount and fly up to in range of Ban'thalos, cancel mount, hit tame as falling, which will aggro the bird, and continue tame once landed ?

You can't cast tame while moving. But you can cast Counter Shot. The following macro casts Counter Shot without starting autoattack. It would also work with Concussive Shot.

Didn't the foam sword not work on the Cata level enemies? Or did they fix that?

EDIT: Also, the way you used to tame Ban'thalos was to land in a tree and wait for him to get close enough. Is that tree not still there? If so, is the range on Tame Beast reduced?

Can't remember if its always been the case, but he is out of range of tame from the tree. Have to fly up and aggro him down.

(on beta) This worked, thanks Xota! I was able to aggro Ban without autoshotting as a 110. This should also work for those white arcane wyrms that fly high up in Coldarra.

The taming bug is still there tho
