I think it's both Aela. Tamora Pierce is an amazing author. And she has said on multiple occasions that she loves JK Rowling just because she proved to the world that kids will read a really long book and now she doesn't have to cut out as much as she used to have to in her own stories because of Harry Potter.

Hey, a friend and I are watching the Soul Eater anime! We only have 9 more episodes to go now I think, so just a couple of more evenings. Currently hoping that Death really does have a grand plan and the good guys just aren't being unbelievably stupid. Fav character: Tsubaki

Right, now to stop derailing the thread. I'm actually not reading much right now. I have Songs of the Dying Earth sitting on my desk, which is a collection of short stories in tribute to Jack Vance, but I've only read a handful so far. I tend to prefer the long epic stories, so this hasn't really grabbed me so far. Really looking forward to getting my hands on A Memory of Light once it comes out in paperback though!

Currently reading The City's Son by Pollock, yet another urban fantasy set in London :) Main character is a graffiti artist. It has a Crane god and Mater Viae, goddess of the streets.

One of my favorite graphic novels that I read recently is Jenny Finn: Doom Messiah. I checked it out from the local library, and ended up buying a copy to keep :)

I'm only up to book 3 right now but I do know the show and the book differ quite a lot near the end of the show's run so I may ahve to watch the show sometime too.

I just finished reading the Devil's Arithmetic, which is about the Holocaust. I FLIPPIN' CRIED. Course what do I expect from an emotional book being read by an otherwise emotional reader?

Borrowed from the library and read the first two books of Robson's Quantum Gravity series. Multi-realm universe, including the homes of elves, elementals, demons, fairies, undead, and humans. Oh, and the main character is a cyborg! Liked it ok. Won't be buying the third, but might see if they have it at the library.

Just started Turgeon's Fairest of them All, a retelling of the Rapunzel fairy tale.

I've been trying to make it through the Riverworld series. It gets harder with each book, though. I've been meaning to get around to reading them for a long time since, while they may not be 'classics,' they are kind of staples and well known. I'm just starting Magic Labyrinth and still can't say whether or not I dislike the books.

K-On! Highschool. It's one of the series that came out after the first run of the K-on! comic ended with Azusa left and she has to make a new band and stuff. It's cool.

It's always sad when you finish a book knowing there wont be any more :-:

I fished off three books in two and a half days. I think I am a god @.@

book 1
First off I got "Death from the Skies!" for Christmas. It’s all about different ways things in space can destroy our world; how it would happen, the science behind it and the probability of such events happening or being stopped. At times it was a bit tricky to follow. (Black Holes tend to do that to things.) But I am so glad i got it. A well enjoyed read that had me grinning ear to ear by the end of the book. If anyone out there likes space and wants to indulge their nerdy side this would be an interesting read.

book 2
Well I finally bit the bullet and bought my first Harry Potter book. I think I may be a little late for the train on this one as it seems a little young for me. :? I thought Harry had a bad case of the Garry-Sue but with so many people telling me to read it I think I will buy like two more books and give it some more time. I know it takes time to get things going if you have to first create an entire world for your characters to live so nexs stop round two. To those who have read the series may I ask: do the books become more grown up as the characters age? I imagine the story gets more serious as both the characters and the audience gets older and I could look forward to that.

book 3 "Dragon Champion"
I saw this book at the mall back when I was thirteen. I could only buy one book and at the last second I opted for a different book full of short stories. (Which I later regretted as poor innocent me later found out the book I had gotten was erm...dragon porn. :? *facepalm*) By the time I got back to the bookshop to get a real book the series was gone and I was sad since I could not remember the name of the book or the author. N ever saw the book in that store again. Then a few weeks agao im poking around Hastings when I recall the interesting book with the gray dragon on the front, upset that I could not recall the name. I rounded a corner and guess what was staring back at me? Dragon Champion! I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed reading things from the dragon's perspective. there wasn't so much a faction of good guys and bad guys as there were gray guys and more gray guys. everyone was just trying to make life better for their own people and this young drake tries to survive and figure out just how the world works. I look forward to buying the next two books which tell the stories of his siblings but may avoid the last two as their reviews are not that great.

I'll be honest, Sylvia, I never liked the Harry Potter books, partially because of the main character himself. >.< I totally respect the book series and its fans but they're just not for me. The world isn't to my taste, I guess.

I recently got and read Hyperbole and a Half, the book. Fantastic stuff, as I expected from Allie Brosh. I'm also re-reading Wicked Plants/Wicked Bugs, which are fantastic little books. Not stories, but just really neat collections of all sorts of different nasty plants and bugs with some impressive research and lots of neat stories. I adore learning about deadly nature, and man, nothing is better than two books stuffed with information on all the ways bugs and plants can kill you. (And intoxicate you, maim you, destroy everything, etc)

@Sylva I can answer that yes, the farther you go in the books the better they get. I think they really shine by book 4. Maybe this is because he's more grown up and yeah, shit's way more serious. While Harry is alright, he isn't even close to my favorite character. I love Ron and Hermione. I love Snape and the the Weasley Twins. I dunno, all I'm saying is that book 4 is all fun and games and such, but still very entertaining, until the end and you're like "Oh damn.".

Funnily enough.. I'm also rereading the Harry Potter books. I'm also reading The Mortal Instruments series. AND I am also rereading the LoTR series and the Hobbit. I really want to get The Infernal Devices and The Children of Hurin too.

Harry Potter was never my favorite character either. I much preferred Hermione, Neville, and Luna.

Hyperbole and a Half is on my wish list! Was actually hoping to get it for Christmas, so I'll probably buy it myself sometime soon.

Just finished reading Koyanagi's Ascension. Liked the book's themes, but feel they could have been executed much better.
