So, is anyone playing the World of Tanks beta?
Ok, I know what you're thinking. No, it's not World of Warcraft without the DPS and healers. It's literally tanks. At this point in beta it's all of the USSR, German and American tanks of WW2. It's a sort of MMO mashup between an RPG where you're leveling up and buying gear and a FPS where you're actually out driving your tank. When starting out, they give you three of the tiniest tanks know to man, one from each nation. After you go out and play a fifteen minute round or two with other people driving the same lawnmowers, you'll have enough experience to start gearing up the little thing. Once you've gotten all of the upgrades, you can then move into the next biggest tank or branch out with an artillery piece or tank destroyer.
The nice bit is that you always get experience and in-game currency rewards from playing. Even if you're the first one killed on the loosing team, you'll still earn enough to improve things for the next round. Naturally you get more points for surviving, much less capturing the flag or whacking someone else's tank around a little, but you haven't got to be a FPS whiz to get anywhere.
Oh, and the best part? It's a destructible world and you've got a tank. Fences, trees, houses, just bash through them.
