BFA Taking a Step Back for Pets. :/ (Specializations)

http://www.wowhead.com/news=281769/batt ... pet-revamp

Long story short: Pets can't be changed from Tenacity/Cunning/Ferocity anymore. They're stuck based on family.

On top of this, all ferocity pets gain heroism. A change from earlier in BFA: Moths/Cranes/Quilen have battle res again, but are stuck as cunning/tenacity pets.

Some families also changed specializations since they were last in:

Bat - Ferocity -> Cunning
Chimaera - Cunning -> Ferocity
Clefthoof - Tenacity -> Ferocity
Crocolisk - Tenacity -> Ferocity
Dragonhawk - Cunning -> Tenacity
Fox - Ferocity -> Cunning
Goat - Ferocity -> Cunning
Hydra - Ferocity -> Tenacity
Hyena - Ferocity -> Cunning
Moth - Ferocity -> Cunning
Nether Ray - Cunning -> Ferocity
Quilen - Ferocity -> Tenacity
Raptor - Ferocity -> Cunning
Ravager - Cunning -> Ferocity
Rodent - Tenacity -> Cunning
Scalehide - Tenacity -> Ferocity
Scorpid - Tenacity -> Ferocity
Serpent - Cunning -> Ferocity
SPIRIT BEAST - FEROCITY -> TENACITY
Stag - Ferocity -> Tenacity
Tallstrider - Ferocity -> Tenacity
Warpstalker - Tenacity -> Cunning

---

I REALLY hope these changes are just part of alpha and not intended. This is going back 1,000,000 steps on pet usability for hunters. Cunning is pretty much a useless pet specialization (even in PvP, people prefer ferocity), and tenacity is only used for soloing.

This will actually kill the game for me. I realllllly hope they fix this before it hits live, otherwise I may actually quit the game over this.

What in the goddamn?

Anyone with half a mind can see that this is absurd and a clear step backwards, especially given the overall trend of making classes more customizable over the last few expansions.

You might as well bring back the old talent trees with one ideal build.

Let's take to Twitter.

This won't last. While it's insignificant (bring what you want to bring, don't be "forced" to bring something else), it's still a stupid idea. I'm going to use whatever I want to use, and my group can deal with it.

EDIT: Who do we cry to on Twitter to complain? BlizzardCS?

What a clusterfuck.

From a raiding perspective, you'll have a pet with mortal wounds, and nothing else.

For tenacity.. well.. quillen will be king.

And the poor spirit beasts.. I'll never use one again if these changes stay.

This is going back to the old days where everyone brought a wolf, especially MM. If these changes go as they stand, Devilsaur or wasp are good choices.

I will really miss Loq.

Yeah, this definitely won't last. This is a big step backwards away from customization. Fortunately, we can get this changed due to this being early alpha.

Even my warrior raid leader just asked me WTF about these changes.. and said he didn't see why I should loose Loq.. and he doesn't even play a hunter.

This is hideously awful. :/ We definitely need to fight this, I can't wrap my head around the decision at all. I can only hope it's not finalized.

It's been pointed out to me that the passives that made the pets the specific specs have been removed (heart of a rhino, spiked collar, etc.)

So it looks like the only things that differentiate the specs are their abilities now.

Ferocity - Heroism and 3% Leech.
Tenacity - 10% Max Health and a 20% Less Damage Taken CD.
Cunning - 8% Movement Speed, Master's Call.

If this is indeed true... it's less imperative that this gets fixed (as a Tenacity/Cunning Pet will do as much damage as a Ferocity Pet), as I'd prefer to be able to choose which pet gets what buff (like I love using a tanking mechanical squirrel).

Aye, I posted about those changed in another thread, but it wasn't clear with just that info that Blizz was intending to change how the pet specs work. Either Blizz really needs to explain how this is supposed to work (incase we don't have the entire picture) or they need to revert this.

I like most things here but the "stuck in one spec" especialy for the b-rez pets being cornered into specs no one uses in raids/instances. I'll wait till the list of pet abilities are more complete before storming the gates of Blizz HQ. Seems like a lot of the new ones are either tank related or slows which erks me a bit. :| :mrgreen:

True, but with that, the secondaries become more important. (Mortal Wounds vs slows, etc.)

And Spirit beasts will be the worst tenacity pet.

I'd like to know their reasoning for such a design change, like what their end goal is.

This new change pisses me off so much. What an unnecessary step backwards! I know things are subject to change, but this better seriously be one of them, because this is just... no.

Also, Spirit Beasts... TENACITY??? Oh heck no. =/

Same. There has to be more to this whole thing. If there isn't, then I am very unhappy with it all, but I'm really hoping there is more reasoning behind it or a part that we aren't getting.

It's fine for soloing, but not for raiding, which I think is what most here are upset about. Right now you can take any pet into a raid, no problem. But these changes would prevent that.

Has anyone official confirmed this yet? I can’t help hoping that all we’re seeing is an intermediate stage of redevelopment and the spec changing ability is being rewritten.

If not, this is really fucking terrible. Legion demonstrated that the class designers currently assigned to hunters didn’t really understand the class or have the time to fix their mess (no looking back, right?). BfA better not continue that trend or it’s gloves off.
