I'm not aware of any huge rift, myself. BfA wasn't a particularly popular expansion, but it didn't seem to be really hated or anything, so I'm not sure what they're referring to. I'm curious, though.

Aside from the weird stuff going on with the lore/story that makes 0 sense.... This 'rift' is about the same as it has been in every expansion. People are always going to be upset.
Yes, Blizzard has been making more and more shady moves as of late, and I too am a bit :l about it... But it's really nothing too different than what we have been used to since like... BC? Wrath?
You can try WoW for free for a while and see if it's a game you feel like you want to get into or not, then go from there. No need to purchase anything.
