Honestly attack speed only matters in two situations; one you are playing vanilla and your target is a caster, two if your target is moving or standing still. If the target is moving a lot go with higher attack speed to counter the target moving in and out of your pet's attack range often.

So faster attack speed = more crits = more DPS.

No, because lower attack speed = bigger base damage per attack = bigger crits = the same dps. What the faster attack speed gives you is more crits, which gives you more chances to proc Frenzy, which is increased attack speed without a damage penalty, which is more dps.
Alright, makes sense, thanks for your input ;)

Just in case anyone is still wondering, I have several confirmations that there are no more special pets (Attack Speed being the only exception) in Classic. Some examples :
- Lupos (Wolf), which had Shadow damage during early Vanilla. This is replaced with Normal damage in Classic.
- King Bangalash (Tiger), which had Cobra reflexes during mid-Vanilla. This is removed in Classic.
- Kresh (Turtle), Boss from Wailing Caverns, has Shell shield, but otherwise no special stats. It was rumored that he had more HP and more Armor in Vanilla, but I believe that wasn't true either, and people just didn't compare the stats correctly.

So unless someone comes with hard evidence, we can be pretty sure that there are no more special pets in Classic regarding stats and abilities, with of course the exception of Attack Speed.
