I have been able to confirm a few beasts that, while they were flagged as tameable in SL but could not be due to their elite status, are tameable in Dragonflight.
I suppose that the 3 dogs of the raid of the Sire, Hecutis & Cia will not be, right?
Probably not for this xpac, I'm afraid. Usually mobs or bosses in raids are made tameable two xpacs later. So anything in BfA that could be tameable should be in Dragonflight.
Jumping in on this, I want to point out that we have BfA raid monsters who now fit this criteria:
- Fetid Devourer, perfect fit for either Hydra or Hound families.
- Zek'voz, another named Aqiri. Not a new look, but still.
- Spawn of G'huun, spawned during the mythic G'huun fight by failing mechanics (worm blood beast!)
- Grong the Revenant for Alliance and Grong for Horde (as well as hopefully some way for faction swapping to tame the opposite) as gorillas.
Granted, Grong is pushing it, but the Uldir bosses (and spawn) are absolutely available for this rule now.
Yes. I have reported that the Wind Serpents, as of right now, can spawn as all possible variants
This mob may end up changing as some point. Possibly even being removed. It has a very basic name, which certainly will be changed, and also seems a tad out of place.
I personally hope not. Nonsensical one-time things are best left at zero. Going in order (as best as I remember the order, anyway);
- Direhorns were just a neat little bonus for an island that existed purely for a handful of recolored mounts and a world boss.
- Mechanicals were simply crafted by an average engineer, no difficulty or silly nonsensical content required. Just a few materials and a few minutes a day for a week at worst.
- Feathermanes were a per-character reward for doing an overly lengthy chain of quests that got quicker as time went on, but it's still excessively lengthy.
- Panthera requiring all those dumb steps and a rare drop was not fun. It was the worst special tame they've ever added, and I stand by this like a zealot.
- Blood Beasts had an obscure and ridiculous method, but a glitch became a feature and that was scrapped as it should have been.
- Cloud Serpents being available through an old and irrelevant rep was good for old players, but horrible for new players. That rep grind was awful back then, and it isn't fun today.
- Undead was stupid since Maldraxxus only contains undead, yet taming those zombies didn't require a book.
- Gargon was the closest to correct, in that you just kill a guy and it's unlocked. The level limit was a bit rude, but at least this required zero effort.
If we absolutely NEED an unlock for special pets, then just make it one of the following;
- Beast Mastery spec is required to tame them and the pet can be used in any spec thereafter, much like real animals would be
- Make the unlock a guaranteed drop/product from an NPC that's easy to find, like the Gorgon manual
- Skip the bells and whistles and just let us tame cool ornaments like normal
Likewise, if we do get another book, it had better be account-wide AND contain at least as much as Mechanicals, Feathermanes, and Undead do. I don't want a book purely for the dragon toads, for example, since that would be utterly pointless.
If they do it again, I hope that they don’t do what they did with the Undead tome and not implement it in the Beta. We had no clue where it came from for all of Beta. I farmed mobs in Maldraxxus for so long. It wasn’t until SL went live that we found it, and that was only because they didn’t actually make it possible to drop until it went Live.
I think since there’s a lot of elementals and lava creatures, I think we could start taming firehawks and other elemental beasts, and I’m crossing my fingers for tameable soul eaters and skeleton horses this xpac

Anyone know is the Gorgon Boss Pets from the Nathria raid are tamable?
As of right now, they are not. They most likely won't be made tameable in DF. Usually raid bosses and mobs are made tameable two xpacs later. So bosses and mobs in BfA should be made tameable in DF, and things in SL will be made tameable in the xpac following DF.
Found in black and brown so far. No white or red yet.
EDIT: Found a wild Val when I had res sickness and my two bears out. Couldn't tame it though!
EDIT 2: They can come in all four colors. I found a wild red one, and checked with F6 to see if it would cycle to white, and sure enough it did. Not like we'll get to keep them, obviously.
