Since we will no longer be able to use melee weapons, does this mean my Hydrocanes will be useless and I'll have to start carrying water breathing potions again? :(

You can still equip it; you just won't be able to equip your bow at the same time.

EDIT: Bow, gun, crossbow, whatever.

I think you would still be able to use it, as in equip it, but it would replace your ranged weapon, and you wouldn't be able to fight properly. Still, if you just need the underwater breathing part, that probably wouldn't matter.

I'm sure you'll be able to equip it, but if you're worried about it, you can get the water-breathing fishing pole from the Kalu'ak.

in a sense, it's a shame, and frustrating that we lose the ability to have both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon.

for example, my main has the Hallow's End sword, which gives a bit of extra DPS via the summoned pumpkins every few minutes. I lose this small advantage when MoP comes around.

But you lose more DPS by not having the agility from a regular main hand. >_>

The Horseman's Sword wins you a lot of style points though (assuming you aren't playing like top tier raiding). I still have the Lv 70 and Lv 85 versions in my bank (go awesome items!).

your ranged weapon gets a boost in agility and whatnot, when the change happens.
supposedly it compensates for losing the stat sticks.

but the loss of the additional damage caused by the swords' summoned vegetables.... well, that is irreplaceable.
and so is, of course, the visual aspect of flying fire-breathing pumpkins.

I assume its been tested in beta that we can indeed have a fishing pole, which is sort of a melee weapon not that I have ever used it as such or run entire dungeons with it equipped, and a ranged weapon at the same time?
And, having to give up my ranged to breath underwater makes it really pointless for doing say "Shark Tank" which I do with my Kaluak pole not a Hydrocane but still. And....I"m sorry, but I"m not grinding walrus-folk rep on every toon.

I think you can summon adds then unequip it and they persist. So if you have a macro to use it then switch weapons you're all good.

Yup, sorta like how healers will get multiple maces off of DW and enchant them differently and switch them off as they proc! :)

No, you can only have a ranged weapon equipped or a melee weapon, including the fishing pole.

Glad I'm not on a PVP server.. fishing ganking is gonna be a problem.

Can see it now:

Breaking story on world of warcraft, hunter's gone missing while fishing? Apparently after a long trek for 8 hours+ following tracks a hunter stops to go fishing. Now this guy is one of the top hunters of the server but unfortunately a fishing pole became his undoing when he got ganked without a bow on. He tried to fight off his attacker with his fishing pole but alas he has met his fate.

Equip ranged in combat, problem solved.

It's no different than getting ganked while fishing currently. :P

Is the fishing pole the only profession item that requires having it equipped to use? Maybe they should treat them like skinning knives?

OR Make the fishing line exceptionally elastic, and make a fishing pole bow.

OR EVEN BETTER!!!! Allow bow hunting. Give out a bow that acts as a 'fishing pole', problem solved.

I can have a ranged....or a freaking fishing pole? Really. Thanks Blizz. That's awesome.

Now we're like every other physical class who has to give up their weapon to wield a fishing pole. We had it good, folks!
