Parrots :)

Unread post by erwil »

Hellu! Just wanted to ask a few questions about the new parrots in Deadmines. :3

Adoring all of the parrot pets so far, but, they still don't seem to obey trick. :< And they're flying unusually high. :O I read the topic about seagulls being able to follow flying targets, has it been changed to all pets capable of flying in the game?

Also, how often do you think the rare parrots spawn in the room? Apparently the Miniwing lookalike is a rare as well, but I'd like a confirmation on it. :o
I've only had the chance to run Deadmines once so far, and was lucky enough to run into the Albino Eyegouger (no sign of Brilliant Macaw at that time though :< ). :D
Image

But, he did not have a silver dragon around his portrait, so I'm wondering how rare are these two actually?
And if there's a topic about this already, feel free to point it out. x3

For the 'Trick' problem, it's because that particular bird model (owls, parrots, etc) were created back in Vanilla before the flip animation was introduced. The flip that a bird does with Trick is from the druid flight form skeleton. The eagle models do it for sure, I think a few of the hawks maybe? I forget exactly which, but sadly the majority do not perform a Trick just because their skeletons do not have that animation at all.

Perhaps when Blizzard has less on their plate they'll go in and edit the model skeletons to give them that animation, but until then only a few types of birds will do it.

The seagull does it too, interestingly enough. :D Just tried it with my Dai.

For a short while in the beta, male trolls were using the male human skeleton. The result was pretty horrifying.

I ran Deadmines probably about 20 times over 2 days to get the Albino (19th run) and Brilliant Macaw (20th). Best of luck to you!

It took me about 8 runs to get my Brilliant Macaw, so I'd say the "rares" show up 10-20% of the time, maybe?

He likes to hover right above my hunter's head when she's idle, which I think is adorable.

TRUMAN.

Oh the horror.
I loved totalbiscuit's commentary on it though.

I wonder if both of the rare birds can be up at the same time?

OK, this makes way more sense than that silly tooltip. I imagined that the 'larger birds' referred to the eagles, not the owls.
If you look here, you'll see still images of all the Bird of Prey skins. Here's my hypothesis: those with their wings held vertically are based on the owl skeleton, and those with their wings held horizontally as if soaring are based on the stormcrow (druid flight form) skeleton. Seems that the seagull was given the latter skeleton, hence why it is capable of doing tricks.
I'll be able to test this later, by trying to order a parrot, seagull, and hawk to do a trick. I've already tried with an owl right after 4.0.1 with no success, and today noticed that my 'flying' eagle from Loch Modan is able to perform a trick.

I was in Deadmines for hours, before the albino spawned, then I accidentally killed it /cry.
I then saw the Brilliant Macaw 3 times, and finally after hours it spawned again. From what I gathered, they can spawn right when you walk onto the pier or in the center of it. I now have two more beautiful birds to fly with my Aotona.

Here is a pic of two Brillant Macaws and miniwing.

Now, I've always been a little confused about instance rares, so I have a question.
When you enter and instance that may have rare spawns, is it a hit or miss as to whether or not they'll be up, or can they spawn while you're inside?

it's a hit or miss, you can however reset though, but only 5 runs per hour :)
