Their corpses stay on fire until the corpse disappears.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
After about 6 tries I got a Oil Hawk.
After messing with tame timing with the Oil Wolf and that Blue Arrakao-whatever bird... I am getting good at hitting tame just right.
For those who are not getting the timing right... try this.. Remove all gear (armor/weapons/trinklets) with haste EXCEPT your bow/gun.
As soon as you hit the L.69 Oil Hawk with SS (use the macro in the very first post so you don't shoot it twice)... mouse over the SS DoT on the hawk's portrait and as soon as you see the 11 flip to 10 hit Tame Beast. Then when you see the Tame Beast is about done... starting mashing on the Revive Pet button. If done correctly as soon as the bird disappears you should start casting revive pet, and it will bring the bird back to life. If this happens then /logout and log back on so the bird will show up on your Call Pet strip.
If you start the tame as soon as the 11 flips to 10 on the SS and the hawk is tamed as a normal hawk, then you need to start your tame just a tiniest bit later... like a split second after you see the 10. Keep trying to cast Tame Beast later and later til you either revive it after mashing the Revive Pet or your tame doesn't end and the hawk disappears.
On the other hand, If you start the tame as soon as the 11 flips to 10 on the SS and the hawk disappears before taming is done, then you need to start your tame just a tiniest bit sooner... like right before the 11 flips to the 10... if it disappears then then try to tame it earlier than that.
You have to realize the even though the SS shows 10 on the DoT the game itself is seeing the 10 as 10.9, 10.8, 10.7... and so on... you just have to find the golden spot to begin the tame.
Here is how I setup my skill bar.
Button one: macro to /use serpent Sting and then target me.
Button two: Tame Beast
Button three: Revive Pet
My left hand was always on Buttons 1-3, and my right hand was always on the mouse. I had the first three buttons bound to the keyboard as the numbers 1, 2, and 3 to make it easier.
I targeted the L.69 Oil hawk. Made him my Focus by right clicking his portrait (made him easier to target later since I could just click his focus portrait)
Used Button one with my left hand to SS him. Mouse clicked the hawk's focus portrait to target him quickly. Moved my mouse to the SS DoT... watched it hit 10 and without moving my right hand at all I hit Button two with my left hand. At this point I moved my mouse to the Tame Beast countdown and at 3sec left I started cramming on button 3 (Revive Pet).
After messing with the timing around the 11 to 10 flip... I could tell if I needed to tame just a split second sooner or later.
Oh... and with just my bow on I had about 1.2% haste.... just for reference.
I hope this helps someone.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
ive been doing this for almost three hours straight... no luck so far. Tried EVERYTHING people have mentioned, and I can't get it right. Ive been close, but I don't know. Maybe I will just try another day.
Rejoined the hunt after a lengthy break... feels good!

LOL, got it on the first try.. what probably helped was my timers (using Bartender).
The hawk turned brown as it disappeared, but wasn't there to revive, relogged, revived, and there he was, nice and oiled!!!

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
This is cool and I'm glad that it was figured out. But at the same time, as already mentioned I think people should err on the side of caution on doing this so much. Remember there is a Blizz Dev team employee that's a lurker on this site who's been EXTREMELY kind with providing hunters already with a lot they've wished for. Beating the system again may not be the best idea.
I am happy with my wolf and won't be going after this bird. But way to go on those who got it and figured it out.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Better get one before it gets fixed then.
Imagine the regret when we all get to keep ours but you cant tame one anymore. <- thats what happens most of the time.
By the way
I made a topic to round-up all succesfull and unsuccesfull tames, with more information regarding the methods.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Honestly, in my opinion there's no use trying to 'hide' this. A Blizzard employee already follows these forums. Even if there was just one small thread it would still be known with as many Hunters that come to this site and tell their friends, etc.
Obviously I can't speak for Blizzard, but they didn't touch the Oil Wolves, and I don't see little aesthetic perks like this being worth their time to go in and try to fix. They are not advantageous, they are nothing like the Worgen which wasn't meant to be had. These are all tameable creatures that are meant to be so, and this adds a bit of flavor and challenge to those who like it.
If Blizzard decides to change that we're not stopping them, nor is there use in trying to keep this covered. It's out of the bag, now we can just wait and see. I don't really see these little things being an issue worthy of Blizz going to the trouble to change though.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Just got it after a few attempts on getting the timing right, Here's how I did it.
My Serpent Sting was hitting for exactly 493 each time with my bow and no other gear on. Serpent sting on the Hawk, waited until roughly 10.7 seconds left on the Sting (10.5 was too late for me) and hit Tame, and spammed Revive Pet as the tame was on it's last 2 seconds. Once I saw that I was able to revive a pet that was not in my Call Pet, I knew I had it, so I cancelled that revive and re-logged. I saw the hawk was normal brown on the login screen, but don't freak out about this. When I logged on and revived my pet, I had the Oil Stained Hawk in front of me (well first it ran off due to aggressive mode but I hit passive quickly after).

Also... I think "in a bit" has been reached.

If it involves putting on haste gear to get your tame down to 6sec then that is cool.
If it involves you targeting one and hitting Tame Beast while your friend throws the item in the quest "Feed of Evil" when you have 6sec left on your Tame Beast... that might be a little harder, because it even two people which just means that you have double the chance of something going wrong. (But if you did it this way at least it can be done)

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
That's the way I see it. Hence why they 'clipped the wings' on the seagulls, and the thread we made collating all the pets that are (or were) flying will probably be used to hotfix all the remaining pets that aren't pathing along the ground. This is because it could be exploited. I highly doubt that my killing some buzzards in Loch Modan with a flying eagle or having my Albino Eyegouger fly onto rooftops in Moonbrook counts as exploiting. Rather, it would be exploiting if one were to use this to attack a player on a flying mount who is either flagged or on a PvP server and has gone AFK - they would be dismounted if they aren't shapeshifted, and then fall to their death.Griffley wrote:Exploit = Killing people when they cant kill you etc.

Running around with a wolf who has a sword sticking out of his spectral head won't do anything more than turn heads and start conversations. Oh, and maybe freak a few people out, since someone having a pet wolf whose head has a sword embedded in it is kinda disturbing

Does the disease cloud stay on the mob if you kill one regularly? As in, does the corpse keep the buff, or does it disappear when killed?Slapperfish wrote:Doesn't work on the Blighthounds in EPL. Just got one tamed dead, only to have it lose the Disease Cloud buff when I rezz'd it.
I DID manage to loot it while it was a pet, somehow. O_o
