Luck is another word for heart attack - Loque'nahak

Unread post by Anvilheim »

After having hunted off and on for the elusive spirit beast of Sholazar basin for the past couple months I had been near giving up. Last night i did my usual circle of the spawn points for a while and eventually decided that I would cease this foolish endeavor, such a strange creature surely must not exist or if it ever did it has long been extinct. Feeling utterly defeated i logged out for the night, the long hunt having taken its toll and exhausted me i drifted into dreamless sleep.
I awoke today swearing at myself for having slept in and went about my normal rituals. Upon returning to my desk i entered WoW on my hunter and suddenly had to fight having a heart attack!
I had logged off just to the side of one of the spawn points, not intentional just happened to be where i had given up. My NPC_Scan was going wild, the alarm sounding loudly and my screen flashing with red. At first i thought it was just another hunter being a troll and taunting their fellow hunters (a sadly common practice for other hunters on my server who are bored and have already tamed the rares of that location) but clicking on the name plate and targeting Loque i knew it wasn't a hoax. My heart was pounding, my mind racing, my hands shaking i dropped from the sky and tried to tame. Out of range it told me so i sprinted towards the beast (aggroing a bunch of nearby dreadsabres) and started the tame. With Loque pouncing in to attack and a handful of dreadsabres savagely striking from behind i prayed to a non-denominational series of deities and the RNG goddess that my luck would hold and the tame would work.
I survived and Loque was mine, instantly charging in to attack my other feline foes.

I have learnt my lesson, strategy has proved useless in all my hunts. It is luck that has always remained my key.
In memory of this fact i have renamed Loque as Óski, the god i wished for.

Congratulations on beating the odds of your server and taming your lovelly new companion! :D
And yes, luck is a big factor in tames such as this, although I like to think Karma plays a nice big part in it as well. None the less, your Óski is a fine beast and I'm glad to hear he's finally at your side.

Thanks everyone. :D

The story however continues as there were further developments in a later hunt of the day.

I returned to the basin on my druid later that night to help a friend catch Loque for her hunter. Flew in around five and a half hours after my tame following some advice i had been given that the respawn time was between 6-8 hours. I began the patrol of spawn zones while i waited for her to relog to hunter, set up BM talents and recruit a couple of her guildies into a camping session. Within a minute of entering the zone NPC scan again went mad! This time however it wasn't Loque but the legendary Devilsaur of Sholazar King Krush. I shouted over chat that she needed to hurry and quickly dived to entered combat while she made her way over. I Resto Tanked it for a while, healing myself and HoTing to prevent him completely trashing my health between fears and additional silithid mobs joining the fray.
During this time a mage arrived and stated he wanted the kill achievement. He demanded to know what i was doing and after my polite explanation that a friend needed a pet he said a few less than kind words about me and hunters in general. The mage then attempted to kill him to spite me and my hunter friend but thankfully Krush cast fear with a couple thousand health remaining and drove the mage through several adds and off a cliff. I believe he may have died at that point as he didn't return to cause further trouble.

Finally backup arrived in the form of my friend's guildies (a DK tank and a lock). We reset Krush to get his health to full and the DK tanked the beast. During this time the hunter was desperately making her way towards us, freaking out and suffering an adrenaline induced panic attack as many of us do when encountering a truly rare beast or epic tame. We reset Krush again and She started to tame. First several attempts failed as he would either fear break or my attempts to keep her ever dwindling health up would draw aggro. On a couple of occasions during this my heals couldn't keep up with large spikes of damage between fears without drawing aggro resulting in her death. During the later part of the battle I also discovered that tanking a fear casting Devilsaur on the edge of a large cliff will result in hilarious and painful deaths. Finally after numerous failures of timing between fears and multiple resets of the beast she got the tame timed perfectly and managed to capture this truly epic beast.
The fight had taken a good half hour but King Krush was beaten and had a new master.

Following the tame we did continue the hunt for Loque'nahak for a couple of hours unsuccessfully. I believe that while we were on the other side of the basin another of the hunters in the zone managed to find him before we arrived on our circuit. Whilst we did not manage to capture our true goal the night will remain a fond memory for those involved and for my friend the result of that incredible battle was spectacular. She had captured one of the rarest and most difficult pets to tame while on her very first hunting expedition for a beast master pet.

I will continue to pester her to post here however thus far she has proved a little shy. ;)

must agree with you..... it's pure luck

tamed gondria while i was looking for arturus, asked a friend to stay in spawn spot in grizzly hills and went just to check "them out"

then it was king krush was farming for loque'nahak :?
Loque'nahak was already when i had lost all hope and was just "checking" for some piece of mind
Aotona discovered while i was farming herbs
got arturus when i was flying from zeppellin to dalaran he just happend to be there with no other hunter in sight (in my server all hunters farm for arturus and allie camp there to kill horde's
on the same moment i got arturus i though to myself let's try my luck on skoll, flew storm peaks has soon has i had arturus happy, when i reach the spawn zone south of temple of storms i see nothing there..... wow crashes (one of the famous 4.0.3 wow errors) i login again just to check the other spawn zones and tchanannnn skoll was there waiting for me

It's all about some damm luck

now i need to choose a pet but i'm lost :? love my loque my skoll and my arturus farmed almost 1 week straigh with a few sleeping times the spot of this pet now what should i level with me in cata

Love how Krush showed that mage who was king!

I'll never understand why rares that are highly sought after by hunters were made part of the Frostbitten achievement, and eligible for w/ever the other achievement is

Because rares weren't made *just* for hunters, unfortunately. ;) At least not until the newest ones... and even they're not *just* made for hunters, since they drop a 25g grey.
Come see Kurasu's stables!

Congratulation on the tame, loque is a fine beastie (though my heart still falls to Gondria ever since he's out =P)
It is indeed very hard to not accept luck as the sole thing you need for the tame. (nah, not even dedication)
I decided to level up my hunter around 3.0.8, and missed the opportunity to tame the slime/hydralisk (was 75 when the hotfix hit =( ). My mind wasn't into any of the rare beasts then so I went after heroics and raids until 3.1.0 is approaching.

When 3.1.0 hit, I was stunned by the beauty of Gondria and decided I definitely had to pick him up. It was the one and only thing that occupied my mind and I started camping him days and nights (~18hrs a day for a week straight, could really only do it since we had our mid-term break in Easter). The server was restarting every night and no one was able to get a tame on him. Finally got lucky after a week and I was probably the second on the server to have him (the first was a troll hunter).

Encouraged by the success, I then decided to get him a mate and went for Loque (and possibly King Krush, which I hastily made myself a set of Icy Scale for the stamina and pulled out my Abacus of Violent Odds I used when solo-taming the MC corehound at 70). Much to my surprise, despite the sheer number of hunters still looking for him I was able to grab Loque in a matter of 6 hours. I then went on and look for KK, and finally found him wandering at the bones west of Mosslight Pillar after 3 days (Encountered 2 more Loque's during the camp too, one dead and one with a troll killing it with a dwarf hunter standing nearby, probably cursing why he chose to roll on a PVE server =P). Got KK on the second try and I was one happy hunter.

For some reason I wasn't too amazed by Skoll, but I decided to go for him anyway (though only casually). Got him after around 2 weeks, which I still regard myself to be quite lucky considering I was only doing it casually. Never bothered for Arcturis as I didn't have enough space in my stable and didn't like the skin personally anyway. (And the idea of only having 1 spawn spot, imagine the competition)

Somewhere before 3.3.0 I desperately needed a tanking pet to be able to solo some harder mobs, and out of the 5 stable slots (It was 5 back then, wasn't it?): Loque, Gondria, Skoll, King Krush, Old Cliff Jumper(which I used for raiding), I chose to give up Skoll...

So I decided to pick him up again after they increased the stable slots, but have had no luck. After reading some posts here I contacted a GM to restore it last sunday night and got him back in a few hours.

Needless to say, a few hours later when I went to do the daily in Storm Peaks for the Polar Bear Mount on my alt shaman, I found Skoll wandering at the spawn point right next to the Brunnhildar Village...

Moral of the story: Luck is all you need to be able to tame these great beasts.

Wow, great stories Anvilheim!!! Seems oftentimes these creatures pop up when you're hanging by the last thread of your sanity. I guess they like to taunt us.

As a KK owner myself, I am soooo happy to hear that your friend got that bad boy. If there's one amazing thing, it's that he was up for more than 5 minutes. A whole half-hour? She really is incredibly lucky!
