Old world rare list for npcscan

Unread post by Quiv »

My google-fu is usually strong, but I am coming up empty handed here.

I am a hunter. I like to hunt. I like to hunt things that are elusive. Achievements like Frostbitten and Medium rare (northrend and outland rare kill achievements) were right up my ally. I loved completing them.

Now I know there is not an achievement for killing old world rares. So i am going to have to keep track of it myself. I have fun with these so this wont be a problem.

However I was curious if anyone knows if there is an already compiled list of all known rares and their ID out there? I have not been able to find anything. I know that were right in the middle of finding a bunch of previously MIA mobs, including a ton of rares, so this may need to wait to be complete, but figured I would throw the net out there.

I also am curious if there is something that interacts with npcscan, something that has a mass adding feature for something like this. This may be something to bring up to the developers though.

So far, it looks like im gonna have to plow through wow head and make my own list and manually add each one.

*edit* No I wont be killing Sambas, Madexx etc lol this is mainly old world stuff. New cata stuff.... nawww

Directly from the creator of NPCscan, Saiket:
I put a settings file together that includes all known rares. First, close the game.
Second, download this file:
http://wowui.pastey.net/144780+
Then place it here:
WoW/WTF/Account/{AccountName}/{ServerName}/{CharacterName}/SavedVariables/_NPCScan.lua

Note that it will only work for English clients.
If you have this, and downloaded it earlier, you will want to re-download; he made a mistake in the file, and it was originally accidentally switching Eastern Kingdoms for Kalimdor. ;)

Now, this *is* for 'all known rares', and will not include the new rares on the PTR. That's to say, as an example, that you won't find the three troll god rares with it. Nor will you find if a mob was turned into a rare from a normal in PTR stage. For instance, if he were to make Steelsnap into a rarespawn, it won't locate that mob. So just because you have NPCscan doesn't mean you can't keep your eyes open!

wow this is pretty much exactly what i needed, thanks! though i feel kinda foolish at not being able to find it haha

when i go rare hunting, i go looking for specifics. if i run across one here or there, thats one thing. but i often focus on them and look for a handful at a time verses flying around randomly over zones waiting for the the scan to go off. i think this will work out just fine.

ok forgive my ignorance, but this didnt do anything. or does the instructions imply to rename the file you download as _NPCScan.lua and copy over the existing?

or a link to where you found this and i can do the digging myself. even though you have laid it out, i still cant find the original post from the dev :\

It will also probably mean that _NPCScan will blare when you are in Thousand Needles and come across the once-rare but now common Silithid Reaver. Just a heads up ;)

When I clicked on it, I got immediately directed to a download. I saved the download over the original _NPCScan.lua in a way that gave it that name (i.e. clicking on the original and telling it to save to that name).

As for where I found it, it's on the 'comments' section of the Curse download for _NPCscan. The instructions I C&P were exactly what's there.

Cialbi: actually, I think the Silithid Ravager is using a different ID. I *could* be wrong about that, but the ravager rare is still listed on Wowhead under a completely different section to the 'normal' Ravagers. So I'm pretty sure you're safe (until/unless they reuse the original ravager ID for something).

Well, I have a Silithid Ravager that I tamed pre-4.0.1, and it has yet to change. I merely assumed that they had reused the same NPC ID on the new Silithid Ravager. Interesting - it would be very weird if my dancing silithid turned into...something.

Are you on the 'Custom NPCs' page, rather than the Frostbitten or Bloody Rare page?

yes i was, and actually i just noticed i got that npc alarm (and another just now) from silverdragon. forgot i had it installed, apparently it has the old world in by default.

im gonna test the rename in a sec for npcscan.. i have a rare up to test with.

update: that did it. you have to copy over the existing lua with the one you downloaded. thanks!!!

Sadly, AFAIK, there isn't an updated version. You can manually add the new rares in, though, if they don't exist on that file.

The list I have, I edited to include a bunch of 'nonexistent' rares, just in case they ever got added to the PTR.

Updated list for 4.3. Includes "semi-rares" aka rares without a silver dragon such as Brilliant Macaw, Hyjal Lords, Deathwing, and others. If there are any errors please let me know.

Does it included ALL old rares too? Cos for some reason my .lua file like twice bigger than yours :O))
And I am pretty much sure I don't have all rares in there...

It does include all rares in game that currently exist. If you looking at the .zip file size, that's not the actual size. The .lua file is 22KB.
