Re: Confused
- hydras now show diets when you beast lore them, though they remain untameable
- people with the "ghost" hydra they got through the bug now see it as family "Hydra" and it has a family ability
Now these do strongly suggest taming soon, though they could be the remains of a test that they did in the alpha 4.1 in which they rejected hydras and they haven't removed all the details yet. The former does seem the simpler and more likely explanation, i.e. that they'll be tameable soon. Unfortunately I haven't received any up to date info on them.

Re: Confused
I think its because of all the hunters who didnt get the "ghost hydra" and complained about it 24/7Xakaal wrote:I honestly cant believe hydras are starting to work their way into the game as a tameable mob... The ghost hydra was an accident. They are aquatic creatures. They waddle on two stubby legs and one hell of a large tail. I dont even think ive even seen one run before. Id rather see basilisks tameable, they at least can be found on both land and near water :/

Re: Confused
No, it's because when they asked hunters what beasts they'd like to see made tameable, hydras in general were VERY high on the list. It doesn't have anything to do with whether other families make more sense or not.12gunner wrote:I think its because of all the hunters who didnt get the "ghost hydra" and complained about it 24/7
Hydras are amphibious not aquatic, but most of the important ones you face in the game, you do so on land. And they're quite effective on land. It doesn't mean they're the most obvious untameable family to be made tameable, but I believe they shouldn't be ruled out as aquatic beasts.

Those points also apply to crocolisks, though, and crocolisks are tameable.Xakaal wrote:Eh, the fact their entire body is designed to look like a water dwelling animal and at least, my past lore with them in other refrences has me calling them aquatic. I know they are amphibious but i just really find it akward to have hydras running around trying to keep up with their hunter buddy (btw are they going to get a better walk animation? i cannot stress enough how under developed they seem to me.. and im worried their run is going to be extremely choppy)

This! How can I be taken seriously if there's tons of hunters running around with druid kitties? You have lynx model! D:Ariamodasu wrote:Seriously stop trying to tame me. You have Arc, thats as close as you're gonna get to a druid :< I'm my own cow!
(Really though, I just don't think it'll happen. I mean, it's hinting you're taming a druid, and while they're bestial, they're not stupid and have strong willpowers. They have to in order to be a druid, otherwise they'll become savagekin. I think.)

Re: Confused
Crocolisks at least were given the basilisk model and yes, they are amphibious, both of them can only be found in water but crocs were designed with the wholly pure intention to tame. Hydras were not. Hydras have poor animations for life as a pet rather then a npc.Carnifex wrote:Those points also apply to crocolisks, though, and crocolisks are tameable.Xakaal wrote:Eh, the fact their entire body is designed to look like a water dwelling animal and at least, my past lore with them in other refrences has me calling them aquatic. Re: Confused
Just pointing out that Blizzard does have a precedent for deciding that hunters should be allowed to tame an aquatic, reptilian animal with clumsy-looking land movement animations. (Hell, have you seen a tarantula run? Those actually are terrestrial and it looks horrible!) I'm not sure I understand your reasoning that because crocolisks and basilisks share the same model, crocolisks are inherently better-suited to be hunter pets--basilisks are not tameable.Xakaal wrote:Crocolisks at least were given the basilisk model and yes, they are amphibious, both of them can only be found in water but crocs were designed with the wholly pure intention to tame. Anyway, I'm not trying to change your opinion on hydra taming. If you don't like the idea, that's fine. But unlike, for example, shale spiders, it isn't such a vast departure from more traditional hunter pets.

(Apologies if I missed any.)

And after looking at hydras in WMV, I think they'll look adorable as hunter pets waddling on those two little legs of theirs. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that when they attack, it's only the middle head that attacks instead of all three.

Re: Confused
And I mostly say it for the amount of people wanting to tame my actual Bear/Cat form for some absurd reason. Arc is as close as it's ever gonna get. Hell Cat form for Tauren certainly uses the Lion model as a base as it is, has the same glitched mane dip and everything so not missing out on anything.

Granted Hydras like many things were not originally animated with being a pet in mind, squiggles like that are understandable as you simply wouldn't notice on a wild mob less you're over powered enough to watch it try and kill you.
