Child of Two Worlds
Child of Two Worlds
The child looked up at the towering figure standing in front of her. "Fatha? I be wonderin'..." Huntsman Markhor looked down at his daughter and shook his head. "I been hopin' dat dis day would be longa in comin, but joos take afta joos motha." The child sat quietly, knowing if she asked too many questions Markhor would end the story then and there.
"Joos momma was de mos' boo'ful, sma'test little thing I ever seen. Fought like a lil'wilcat she did. Blunt end of an axe caught her on da haid and konked her out. Dey brung her back to da village to see wot she knowed about da comin' battles. She knowed a bit o'Orcish, and we gots ta talkin'. We was a lot alike, me an'her. Her hated da cities and da magics, jos' wantin to be in da woods. An'den...<Markhor blushes> I started sneakin' hers out to spend times togetha...tha chief found out and maked'she go back to her home. Wot he dinna know was joos was already on da way, little Tsiya.
Da travelin' wos jos too much for her. She maked it back here jos as joo was bein' born. <Markhor pauses for a minute, lost in thought, then shakes his head and continues.> She's wit da wilds now, like she always loved. And joo be she's daughta, and mine."
Tsiya's little face wore an outsized frown as she thought about what was just said. "So, fatha', Sukul'atae dun be my momma?" "No, chile, she took you in when joo was born. Joos sista Sil'vare was birthed jos a few days befo' you, an she raised joos up togetha. Now <Markhor scoops Tsiya up in his arms> we be needin' ta see to da suppa." Tsiya giggles, the frown leaving her face, but a shadow remaining in her eyes.

The coming of age party grew ever more wild as the night went on, but three of its observers were deep in thought. Tsiya had informed her parents of her intention to leave Revantusk and seek a life with the horde. Sukul'atae had accepted her foster daughter's proclamation quietly, as she did with everything, but Markhor had broken his usual reticence to remind Tsiya of the treachery of Doomhammer, the general untrustworthiness of orcs, and the horrors of the undead. She made no reply, but the determination never left her face. Now the three sat together watching the dancing around the bonfire.
Suku turns to Tsiya and asks "Has joo been tinkin' about how joos be lookin to da peoples outside da village? Here in Revantusk joos be accepted, but as a halfbreed tha outside worl' dun be forgivin'." "Ya momma, I has. If I be goin as da troll, dey will see right away I's not one of dem. But, now dat I be grown, I tink I be lookin more like da elf side of me." "We can try some tings, see how dey be workin. Markhor, joo be acceptin she's decision?" Suku asks. Markhor gets up and quickly walks away into the woods. Suku pats Tsiya's arm comfortingly and goes back to watching the dancing.

Sukul'atae stuffs a few more chunks of meat in the pack, then pulls the strap tight. "Dere you go, all set." She turns to see her daughter regarding herself steadily in the beaten silver mirror. Her tusks are gone, the flaming red hair now a subdued brown lying on her shoulders. She shuffles her feet uncomfortably and glances down at the boots which cover her toes. "Momma, da boots be da worst."
Suku looks critically up and down her daughter's form. "But it be amazin', joo be lookin jos like yous real momma. Dat be da real reason Markhor canna look at joo. He be wantin ta keep ya here, but you's too strong ta be hidin in da village all yous life." Tsiya looks up at Suku wistfully. "Do you think he'll ever forgive me?" "He be lovin joo child, o'course he will. Jos gonna take time." The two share a brief but fierce embrace, then Tsiya shoulders the pack and whistles to the blue raptor in the paddock outside. "Cloudstalker, let's get going. We have a long road ahead."

Lovely work, Tsiya! I'm a sucker for anything to do with Trolls, and you've managed to capture the cultural atmosphere of the Revantusk very well, and I'm really jealous of the way you made their speech so authentic, I'm usually TERRIBLE at it.
I really wish Tsiya didn't leave them!

Re: Child of Two Worlds
I was thinking of only telling the story of her visits home. At 70, end of BC, with her spore bat. 80, end of Wrath with her Loque, and 85, end of cata, with her red demon dog. Gradually reconciling with her father and telling the story of her journeys around the bonfire.
Thanks so much Mozag, I really debated over spelling and such. Anyone else? Comments, criticisms, directions for the story?

Re: Child of Two Worlds
You got trollspeak down well! I like that you are exploring one of the more obscure tribes. A little more description of the settings and characters' physical appearance would be nice to help flesh them out.
Though, I see a problem in the base character concept. Forest trolls are vicious enemies to elves. They would much rather eat or kill any elf they found. The only forest trolls receptive to elves, the Revantusk, only recently joined the Horde (learned Orcish) and began working with blood elves about 5-10 years ago. There is also no precedent for a troll/elf mix -- it may be possible, but half-breeds are insanely rare as-is. This character is a real one, right? What's her model as?

Re: Child of Two Worlds
There's a theory, hinted at in-game, that elves are descended from trolls. If that was the case, it would make a troll/elf mix (somewhat) more probable than an orc/draenei mix, and we know those exist. Even if it wasn't, well, orcs and draenei aren't even from the same planet and they can have children. We know for sure that humans and elves are descended from completely different things and they have children together a pretty fair bit. Orcs and ogres... etc. For that reason, I give pretty much all half-breeds a pass, myself, at least in terms of probability. You do have a point about the timeline, though. Hope I'm not intruding! Just wanted to throw in my two cents.Ket Shi wrote:You got trollspeak down well! I like that you are exploring one of the more obscure tribes. Well, for the troll/elf mix, I was going on the theory that elves evolved from trolls, therefore mixes would be possible, different "breeds" as opposed to different species. They prolly woulda eaten her, but they wanted information on enemy troop movements. She was a POW. They didn't kill and eat her because of Markhor, I'm sure he would've gone ballistic. He also knew some Orcish from the second war. He was with Zul'jin and split with him when the orcs lost(Hence the reference to Doomhammer).

Human/tauren. Yes, I've seen people claim to be that.Taizak wrote:that reason, I give pretty much all half-breeds a pass, myself, at least in terms of probability.

Re: Child of Two Worlds
Projected timeline of her leaving Revantusk is start of BC. I know it's a little funky, but most of the original ideas I had just didn't flesh out right. If there's something I can change to fix it let me know please.
Re: Child of Two Worlds
Dusty and tired, the trio made their way up the trail to Revantusk. Tsiya knew every twist and turn, and so did the tired blue raptor she rode. Her new companion, however, flashed amber and blue from his position at Tsiya's side. Type'two was uncertain about everything outside its native Zangarmarsh, and Tsiya had to constantly reassure it with bits of Underspore Pod. Finally the village came into view, and Cloudstalker picked up the pace in anticipation of home, rest and food.
~ ~ ~ ~
"Ah, momma" sighed Tsiya as she settled back into the cushions with her boots off, toes wiggling in delight. "You'd neva believe de tings I be seein. A whole world, broken into pieces, so you have to fly from one to another. Horrible creatures, with spikes and spines, seemingly designed only to kill."
Sukul'atae glanced out the door towards the paddock, then back at her daughter questioningly. "And then there's Typie. I found it during a battle, injured. Cloud seemed to want to defend it, so we carried it out of the fight and left it to recover. Once the battle was done, Cloud was injured, and Typie was following me everywhere." "So joo taught dat...ting to fight?" "Ja momma, Cloudstalker canna fight like he used to, but his legs be fine. And Typie, well, it's the most amazing thing. Those glowy things are babies. They be breakin off and growin up soon."
~ ~ ~ ~
Huntsman Markhor bursts into the hut, looking around wildly in every direction. "Suku! Is she back? Cloudstalker is..." "Hi Fatha" said Tsiya quietly. Markhor snatches her up in a huge bear hug and spins her around. "I be sorry about da way joo left. I knowed joo had to be leavin'. How be da outside worl' treatin joo?" Tsiya, with tears in her eyes because of her uncertainty regarding her father's reception, started into a detailed account of the Outlands while they settled around the fire with plates of boar steaks and mugs of the Cenarion Spirits Tsiya had brought home.
~ ~ ~ ~
The plates and mugs washed and put away, the fire banked, Tsiya told the last part of the story she had come so far to tell. "Thrall be acceptin' da blood elves into da horde now, so I kin move freely about with them. And...I found me birth motha's fambly." Both Markhor and Sukul'atae sat bolt upright at that. "Dun worry, I be here dun I? Joo be me's real family. They dinna know about me, or that she was sent away by da Magistrate when he found she wos carryin' me."
Markhor looked at the fire in his daughter's eyes and nodded. "So joo be huntin dis magistrate now o'course. I be goin with choo." "Oh no fatha! Joo canna come or dey be knowin I not be pure blood!" Suku puts her hand on Markhor's arm in warning. "She be right, and joo canna leave da village witout a leada..."
