Regarding people having trouble on Solix
I tamed Solix last night, and it was sososo easy...yet I keep hearing about people dying repeatedly or trying for an hour, or multiple hunters having a go at it etc etc. Now I know that OMGRARESPAWN nerves can make even the most seasoned hunter flub up a tame, but based on what I saw a hunter trying to do on the spawn before mine, I think I know what a lot of people are having trouble with.
Conc shot has a cooldown shorter than it's duration, and literally the only way I can see anyone unable to keep it up 100% would be if they are trying to keyboard turn. You'd have to slow mo shuffle all the way around to face the spider, hit conc, then slow mo shuffle all the way back around to run away. I don't see how anyone could successfully kite anything that way, much less something that will eat them in one bite should they slow mo shuffle just a little slower than usual.
I am honestly not trying to poke fun, but I'd like to offer some pointers for people still using ASDW or the arrow keys. It's really just as simple as "use your mouse to move your character." You'd be amazed, AMAZED at how much better/faster/more precise you get at just about everything once you start. Put Conc on a button comfortably reachable by your left hand (and we use it so often that it should not be a weird button that we have to stretch for) and practice spinning fluidly around with your mouse, conc-ing, then running away. With more practice you can try the slightly more complicated jump/spin/disengage that makes it appear as if you are disengaging forward.
I would also recommend putting auto run on a button comfortably reachable for convenience's sake. (I use middle mouse button)
If people want to yell at me saying this is not needed, or that I am being an elitist, or that I am poking fun at new players....I'm honestly not. This forum is visited and posted on by people of all different levels of play, and some may not have friends who can tell them about stuff like this. Just trying to help!

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
Yeah, I'm great at kiting, using CS, freeze etc.
My problem was being unable to read - the key bit about how his tame shield drops after his FOCUS goes below 50% (not HP Worba, "focus")?
Well I kinda didn't pay attention to that part.
WTB make-me-smarterer pills.

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
i have almost messed up every rare tame i've ever done because of the rare spawn shakes haha
this was purely intended for new players (and was spurred because of watching a poor hunter try to do it like that the other night)

Most people I know move with the right and bind with the left, but as I have a mouse with a billion buttons, right-hand side it is!Put Conc on a button comfortably reachable by your right hand

Another issue I've seen is folks trying to tame him in melee range. Make sure to stay faaaaaaar away and make sure he's on a trap to start with. Entrapment talent (useful for PvP anyway) is a massive help here!
Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
Well....I only have a 2 button mouse...and Im terrible at mouse turning. Im one of those people who have horrible trouble. So poke fun all you want. I stink and I know it.
Ive done everything Im supposed to do. I lay traps, I shoot, I attempt to kite.
Because I suck at kiting, and mouseturning, Ive given up on this spider. My fingers just dont WORK that way. I have a tiny keyboard, and crappy lag, so I do the best with what I got. Ive had friends try to help by laying extra traps, and a druid is even offering to root him if we get him outside the cave.

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
Im glyphed for con shot, ice trap, I use cheetah...I even had a friend mark where to lay the traps,LOL. Hell, I even pop darkflight and Readiness to get more breathing room, and a chance for a 3rd trap.Kalliope wrote:Glyph Conc Shot. Profit.
I just cannot kite.

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
I found having the Glyph of Cocussion Shot worked wonders. I wiped all times before using it, I had two other hunters cheering me on

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
Pfft. Keyboard turner here tamed the server-first Solix on the second try only because he missed the trap the first time. Others may forget Q and E (strafing!), but I don't. ;P Concussive, Frost, strafe in Cheetah, repeat until safe to tame.

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
I think my only advice to people trying to tame Solix would be to never let him get LOSed around a corner... if daze drops while you can't shoot him BAM he's in your face like a creepycrawly facehugger.
and learning to mouse-turn, like others have said. a properly executed jumpshot is usually accompanied by a feeling of awesome.

Re: Regarding people having trouble on Solix
Tamed him on my BE. Could be wrong but it seemed like he was immune to barrage effect - CS and freeze trap work fine, but my lazy MM chim shot kite didn't work by itself. Once I reverted to the normal methods it went fine, and I got the tame (remembering to watch his focus bar this time = $$ profit $$).

I don't know how the heck I pulled it off but I got blasted into the lava and still managed to tame him. >_<
