My random challenge was the White Warp Stalker!

I’ve always kinda liked warp stalkers from a distance. I never tamed one before, but I do recall debating on it. I just never got around to it for some reason. This random creature selection was a good kick in the behind for me to actually take the time to tame one. :)

Image

I decided to name him, Amrantu, which means “blink” in Welsh. I didn’t get the screen cap of him fading out on me, but he did vanish for a moment mid tame! Also was a perfect fit for my draenei hunter’s naming theme. I tend to use names that sound as though they are (or could be) untranslated draenei words or just plain draenic names, and Amrantu kinda works.

Image

As far as looks go, I would say its a very interesting looking pet. It has a lizard appeal to it, just a bit overgrown! Out of all the color options that are now available, the white warp stalker is by far the nicest match for my draenei. His rough looking skin which is colored in a white and light violet tone, there are also few dark blue stripes running down his back on on his legs. Deep purple spikes protrude from his back and head, creating a more fierce look. He also has bright blue eyes that stand out.

Image

The animations aren’t so bad. While running this guy is a bit of a spaz, often speeding up and slowing down or stopping VERY briefly to look at something then once again speeding up and slowing down. A bit odd perhaps for pet... or it could be just how he reacts on my computer. Another thing to note about his running animation is that he lowers his head a bit, much like a stalker!

This guys swimming animation is both cute and awkward. Its kinda hard to explain, but he seems a bit "squishy" (lack of a better word!) while idle in water, and then has a serpent type of swim (seemed relatively serpent like to me)

His idle moves are kinda cute, he moves his head about a bit in a curious fashion, and also stands proudly. His facial expression seems very sweet, as he gives off a toothy (but cute) grin.

Image

In combat, however, he has a more fierce demeanor. He lets out a screechy growl and roar noise, that may not be my favorite pet sound but its still fitting for a lizardy creature.

This guy is a tenacity pet, so I didn’t really take much note on his DPS output (not to mention I’m not the best at recording numbers :? ). I mostly solo quested with him and I have to say he was very good at holding aggro... or at least I didn’t notice many slip-ups. I spec’ed him for mostly tanking anyways, going more towards the survivability skills instead of raw DPS. I have enough ferocity pets and only one tenacity pet (Amrantu makes two now) to just prefer the tank skills in the tree.

Also for anybody that still feeds their pets, his diet consists of fruit and fish! Yummy!

The signature skill for the warp stalker family is time warp, which reduces movement speed by 50% for 6 seconds. In my eyes this may be somewhat decent for PvP, and also for soloing. I did take Amrantu in into one BG (I don’t pvp often, but I thought I should give it a try) He did alright, but I’m not the best judge at PvP pets, so I can’t say if thats where he will shine. Alas, I didn’t take him into a dungeon, because I have always felt weird about tenacity pets in 5-man dungeons. Had I done it, most of my selected talent skills for him wouldn’t be of much use for DPS output, so I would have had to rework the build a bit. Of course, I still believe he makes a great solo tank pet for questing and whatnot.

Image

Overall, Amrantu is a keeper! I fell in love with this little guy mid tame when he vanished on me for that split second. He has tons of personality (my opinion of course! ;) ) and makes an awesome tank pet! I enjoyed this family so much that when my younger hunter Serenith reaches 82, I plan to have her tame the blue warp stalker.

I’ll take another! But this time I would like Serenith to have a chance.

Name: Serenith
Level: 37, but she will be getting some more levels soon... so lets just say 40.
Exotics: Too low
Restrictions: Her level is restriction enough!

So my task wasImage

Larkania set out for Razorfen Kraul to tame her new boar. I wasn't over excited, I never really liked boars and prefered bears or rhinos as tank pets.
Image
The taming:
The tame went pretty smoothly, although another boar and the boss were trying to hit her. I killed her former owner, who didn't seem too happy I stole his pet and distibuted her talents to a tank-pet. After that, I wanted to leave for the exit, but no pig was following me. I looked around and saw Chili dead on the floor. Pretty strange, 'cause I didn't leave her alone in a fight or did something unnormal. But there she was, dead. I think it comes from taming a ghost pet (see second picture above). I rezzed her and went off to thousand needles for the swimming check.
Swimming:
She actually swims really cute. She paddles with her little legs to keep up with Larkania. What I thought was kind of strange, is, that she stays very upright when you don't move in the water, almost as if she wants to reach the surface.
Image
Appearance:
Chili looks like the "normal" armoured boars, only ghostly. She wears a silver armour and is of a nice rusty colour that matches perfectly with Durotar or Orgrimmar. Her mane and hoofs are black. The whole appearance is really smooth, no pixels to be seen. I did expect her to look "older" in design, more blocky or with more pixels showing, but she really looks nice.
Animations and Sounds:
Chili's run is a little galopp besides her master. You can clearly see, she's not made for sprints, but I really think she looks cute when running.
She sometimes sniffes the ground and wiggles her tail - really sweet :)
Her sounds are exactly what I expect from a piggy: grunting and squeeking. I like her sounds, they really fit and don't get too annoying.
Fight:
First I did my Argetum-dailies with Chili. Since she is a private tank for me, she had no problems keeping the aggro from me. She seems to hit her targets with her snout and keeps her special ability "Gore" at two mobs if she's able to.
Then I visited the halls of stone with her and she really did well for a non-pve pet. But it's clearly not her field.
Image

Conclusion:
Chili has really grown on me. She looks cute and is a reliable partner for soloing and levelling. I think I will keep her, at least until my stable gets too full. Something I noticed while visiting the stables with her: In my stable she doesn't look ghostly at all, but like her former, solid self... spooky pet :D

Okay, sorry about the initial procrastination. I'm off to go tame my new dino!

EDIT: Okay so, here we go!

Sherwood (my phoenix hatching, kudos if you get the reference :D) and I set off to find my new companion.
Image

First thing's first. Look for signs of recent devilsaur activity.
Image
Yep, this looks like a recent attack...

Image
And there she is! The Queen Devilsaur herself!
She's huge.

Image
And I mean HUGE. Just look how she dwarfs... even gnomifies me in size!

Image
And here she is, my new friend. I think I'll call her Mesa

Image
She's quite deadly. Just like she should be.
Her attacking animations are great, but it's hard to take pictures when she's done killing things in mere nanoseconds. o:

Image
And here we are, resting in the nearby hot springs. Aaah... that feels nice...

Image
Look how content she looks!

Image
She's also a great swimmer, despite her little arms.

Tsukura, Sherwood, and Mesa.
... Phoenixes underwater makes total sense.

I've been a bit surprised by the holidays so it took me a very long time to make this taming... But I didn't forgot !

Image
Red Deep See Crab

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/9345/pinchy.jpg
(I don't want to resize the forum page with the image)

Yeah right, I decided to name it Pinchy. Both because it's attacks are pinches and because of the minipet. And why Mr Bad Guy ? Well, just look the top-left hand corner screen-shot. His eyes looks really like he is a very bad guy. Though it's only an illusion, but you really have to look close to notice it.
Now about it's animations... Well, it seems to walk and run strangely but it's only strange for one reason : crabs don't walk front but sides ! Even when you walk on the sides, it follows you by walking forward (3rd screen).
The swim animation is a bit cute : he doesn't seem to move and then gives a great shot in the water with his tongs which makes it go two meters forward. Seems also strange but you know, crabs are not used to swim. They just crawl at the bottom.
The combat animations are not bad at all. And in fact it just attacks like a tenacity pet should : in a way that annoys the enemy, that's to say pinch. It's a bit like...
Hey you look at me ! No don't attack him, attack me ! Do you listen ? *Pinch* Ah now you listen uh ? Now you want to kill me and not the other ? That's great. Hey look there ! *Pinch*

However I don't think this pet is really useful. It's a tenacity with a special that slows down. Could be great to pvp but lacks a bit of damage as it's a tenacity (and people won't kill your pet if it doesn't deal damage which makes his toughness usefulness...), and there's far better for soloing like Turtles and Beetles. So I think he'll just stay in the stable...

But anyway ready for an other roll !

So I was all set up and ready to do some rolls yesterday when I realized that EB Games closed at 6 pm and I needed to hand in a resume there! So I rushed off and the rolls didn't get done...but today I have time :)

Serenith: Love the avatar and I'm glad I finally got you to go tame a warp stalker. It is too bad you didn't tame one before patch 4.0 (pet class changes) because they used to actually warp to their target. I LOVED my warpie as a solo tank pet because I could right click something and start shooting and he would get there instantly, before my arrow and already have aggro. But now sadly they don't do that. I kept both my hunter's warp stalkers because they are cool and good tanking pets (not as good as a turtle but still good).

Finduilas: Boars really do have a cute swim animation!

Tsuki: HAHAHA "gnomifies," yeah she is huge! And because of the little tiny arms I find Devilsaurs swimming animations hilarious.

Lung: you are not alone on thinking the wow crabs are weird. I've always wanted them to have 6 legs (not 4!) and walk sideways....because that would be awesome!

I think I need more sleep...

The idea is to review pets if you already have them unless you're incredibly against that. Also, your sig can only have one image in it (unless all 4 of those are one image, I apologize).

Okay, I'll review and screen Maggie and make all the images into one. I can photoshop with the best of em! Haha.

Sig is now one image. My review of Maggie. Her name is Arya for all intents and purposes.

Maggy shortly after being tamed:

Image

She wasn't a hard tame, and I watched a few others fail at it because they didn't remove their armor. After watching some lost causes fail more, I stripped and tamed her and named her after one of my favorite book character who is (shockingly!) called Cat of the Canals, I thought it was fitting with Maggy and her deadly, devious nature and tricks. She pats up and down the Regrowth and swats bugs. If I hadn't been in such a rush to tame her, I'd have screenied her batting around beetles. As it is, here are some screenies of her doing various things:

Maggy sitting in my stable, after I had to put her there to tame Ankha:

Image

Maggy yawning while idle in Orgrimmar. She also makes little growly cat noises while doing this. Its cute. She also does this if you click on her sometimes.

Image

Maggy swimming in Desolace, which happens to be my favorite zone, pre and post Cata (no haters!) Thought I'd see how spirit kitties take to water. She does some pathetic little paddling animations, but doesn't seem suited to swimming:

Image

Maggy fighting and killing a rock elemental in Deepholme without my assistance, though she did get a little shocked:

Image

Me n' Maggie just sitting in peace in Temple of Earth, no monster fighting or swimming, just a hunter and her kitty:

Image

Overall, she's most certainly a keeper. She can hold aggro very well, looks amazing, and has pretty good animations (thought not while swimming). Any hunter looking to tame her, go for it, she's worth it. She is one of my favorite pets and I wouldn't part with her for anything!

Hopefully I did it alright! If so, roll me another, or assign me another, since I have all the rares and can review them properly. I also have raid-only Chromaggus, if you want pics/a review on him. Also have Jadefang and his mini-me version. Lucky there.

Another one, please! This was fun.

Aww, that would have been cool. I think for the most part my hunter didn't tame one because I didn't do a lot of solo questing after 62, so there wasn't a true need for a cool tank pet even though I often thought about taming one. I ran around with my boyfriends warlock from 60-80 and he kinda used his felguard as our "tank" when we did questing together as we waited for dungeons. The few times I used a tank pet with him I used Miaalu, Neyaari's white bear. But that didn't happen often, so mostly I ran around with Seera (Her Shy-Rotam). That was almost a year or so ago though. Of course now I have one, and I think its the cutest thing, even though the current time warp ability wasn't too impressive to me. I seem to be more impressed by pixels and animations!! :D

I think this is a very fun thing to do. I have tamed all the challenge pets and all the rare spirit beasts, so this will definitely give me something to do in my spare time (which is alot, since I have no job atm, sadly). I loved taking Maggy to Desolace and just watching her pad around doing little kitty things. It was really neat, just watching your pet instead of killing things with it.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

Unread post by Serenith »

So this time around I wanted to do the challenge for my baby hunter Serenith (Yes she is my baby hunter even though I use her name for the forums :D)

Her random pet challenge was the Red Mastiff! AKA the Scarlet Tracking Hound

This doggy resides in the Scarlet Monastery (The Library wing was the one I went to), and too bad for me, I just missed the window to randomly queue for it. So I had a long journey ahead of me being an Alliance character under level 60. So I traveled by ground mount from Iron Forge to Trisfall Glades where the instance is located. I was at least a high enough level and equipped with some helpful traps to not even have to worry about the enemies within the Scarlet Monastery’s walls at 46. While I don’t have a screencap showing it, this puppy was stolen from its rightful owner, since he patrols with a Scarlet Beastmaster (She wasn’t happy either).

Image

I sorta had a hard time naming this one, I ended up settling on Bayne, which I thought fit nicely for a dog.

Image

As far as looks go, I think he looks well enough like a vicious dog, possibly cuddle worthy, but if you ask me he seems a bit mean at times. He stands proudly while idle, and shakes his face from time to time. He walks and runs like a dog too, so no complaints there! I did catch a few screen shots where he seems to be making funny faces :D

Image

I wasn’t too fond of the sound animations, and his fighting style was a bit too basic. I wasn’t really impressed.

Image

Under the water his swim style is a cute paddle, but I must say I was upset that while floating he didn’t keep his head above water like a traditional doggy paddle. Not sure if it was just me but I tried several times and he remained submerged underwater so it was disappointing.

Image

For his abilities the dog family has a special one called Lock Jaw, that holds a target in place for 4 secs.

I took Bayne into Zul’Farrak and as a DPS pet (for a low level hunter at least) he did pretty well. I can’t quite tell if he makes a good DPS pet at end game, but regardless he did decent damage. A few times something strayed he didn’t exactly hold aggro, so I would say tanking is not a strong point.

Overall, Bayne did not earn a place in Serenith’s stable, and she let him go. Serenith felt bad at first, but he just wasn’t meant to be her companion. Even so, I can still see someone being happy with this dog, he isn't all that bad ;)

This time I've been much faster with the taming ^^

Image
Blue Rhino

I've seen that one a lot (and also slaughter a lot of them) during Nesingwary's safari in the Sholazar Basin, my favourite place so far in WoW. But I never liked them and so never tried to tame one.
The taming was a piece of cake, though the rhino really but some nasty head-buts.

Image

I decided to name the guy Grond. One of the reason I didn't like rhinos is because they don't look clean. I mean, they're wire-heard as if they don't take care of it, and it really must smell bad. I expected the rhino to be large, stupid and angry creatures. For the large part, well, it's right. But strangely, you can't consider them stupid anymore when you have one at your sides. It's as if they played this role of the stupid brute creature. And for the angry part... In fact rhinos are the most calm pet I've ever seen. They don't seem stressed at all, you even don't see the difference when they run or when they walk. Because they seem to walk calmly when they run. Even when they swim they don't give some big shots in the water but paddles gently.
Well of course you can't say this anymore when they attack, with their headbut-attack style. But even then you won't see their rear paws moving, and the front one will only move a bit sometimes. And last detail, rhinos seem to be the most adapted for the Thunderstomp ability. The crackles on the ground correspond to their front paws which you'll see moving a bit for the special attack.

As for ability, it's a bit mitigated. Their first ability increase bleeding damages by 30%, which could be useful in group, but it's a tenacity pet, and that makes the ability somewhat useless. The second one could be great, as much for soloing than for PvP : it basically send the enemy back to a safe distance. But it has a 1.5min cooldown, which is far too high to be reliable (though you can use it as stop-cast, range-keeper, and many other things at which you can't think at the first glance). So, yeah it has cool abilities but well...

But somehow, rhinos gained a bit of my sympathy. They surprised me by their calm personality I didn't suspected at all. And I must admit I also had a great time playing with Grond. I felt stupid by doing this... but really, I enjoyed trying to horn-toss that crocilisk into the fishing target. Really, you should try. It really calms down before a raid.

Give me something to tame. I'm sick of trying to camp and loosing on Skarr.

Exotics are fine, all levels, but none of the new challenge tames please, got all those SB already and Karkin, sick of getting the spiders killed by others while taming and so tired of trying and not achieving Skarr. No Spirit Beasts either please, have tamed them all, though I abandoned two already.

Tis for Shadé, level 85 BM hunter. Ferocity or Cunning preferred.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

Unread post by Sarantha »

Don't know if this got lost in all the above posts, but if it did, here it is. I want another fun tame. Gimme something else to tame or review.

Name: Sarantha
Level: 85
Exotics: Yes
Restrictions: Same as before, no monkeys/gorillas. I would also like to add in pigs/boars. I don't think I could make myself tame either of these classes. All others are fine, tho.

I have raid-only Chromaggus if you want me to review him, too, so people can decide if he's worth going into Blackwing Lair for. Of course, I'll tame and play with anything you roll me of course. I'm bored!
Part of Dark Magics, lvl 25 Horde guild, casual, helpful, don't raid, mostly help people and hunt pets.
Part of Dynasty, lvl 25 Alliance guild, casual and hardcore (your choice, no one forces you to raid, but you can), very helpful
Come on over if interested (Runetotem US, Horde name Sarantha, Ally name Ellysetta or Valeraud)
