Forgotten Realms or D&D

Unread post by Sarantha »

Dunno if this topic is already here (I was too lazy to read back a few pages) but I thought I'd post a topic about this game/book series. Besides WoW, FR is my favorite roleplay setting. I adore playing a cleric of Cyric amongst a group of Tyr-worshippers or Torm lovers. They usually give my Cyric-priest nasty looks/comments the entire time and responding to these is just so fun. Its even greater when my guy is secretly a Cyric worshipper pretending to be in service to Tyr, Torm, Sune, whatever good god/goddess. Trying to find ways around all the truth spells, amulets, armor, what have you that the Tormish have is just too fun, not to mention my priest's fake nightly prayers to Tyr. He has to do it in such a way that will not offend Cyric but will also not bring the lot of his "friends" down on his head, literally.

I love misunderstood evil gods. Cyric just needs a big hug, really. C'mere Cyric, I'll hug you! Just don't gut me, Mr God of Murder...

I haven't played any of the D&D computer games, just their original pencil & paper games. My DMs have always made up their own settings, but I've always thought Eberron sounded interesting.

Pen and Paper are the only D&D games I've played as well. Never could get into the computer games for some reason. Eberron never interested me. I always played in Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance gamespace.

It's funny how player's religious beliefs can be such an intriguing part of the game. I once played a ranger/barbarian come in out of the wilderness with strange powers and babbling about some god that no one had heard of. She thought her scorpion beast companion was its avatar. The DM ended up incorporating the scorpion god into his game setting, but I think it would have been much more interesting to have left it up in the air as to whether or not she was delusional! :)

Yes. My love of Cyric extends mostly towards his similarity to a favorite mythology figure of mine. Along with his "pet" Kezef, the adorable little Chaos Hound that ripped Tyr's hand right off. Too bad Cyric and Kezef are now locked up somewhere. Sounds familiar, too, that. In my campaign, Cyric and Kezef are free and leading a dark crusade against the other gods, specifically Kelemvor, God of the Dead, who "stole" the title from Cyric. My Cyric priest is trying to help his god out during all this by trying to turn his Torm-worshipping buddies into Cyricists. So far, it isn't going well for my cleric. The Tormish are so resistant against a good lie!

D&D for the win (on paper at least), I've played a few forgotten realms games on the computer, but I just can't get into them as much. There's not as much variety as paper games. Though if you can get a good group together, I also highly recommend the World of Darkness pen and paper campaign games. Very open to interpretation and gamestyle. ^,^

Nah, I only play games where I can worship Cyric in some way. He is my RP god and will always be so!
