I can see if you're not BM and request no exotics or you want to exclude pets you've already done but other than that just go with it people. This is supposed to be about trying different, unexpected pets not about only taming the ones you like. If you end up hating a pet you're rolled well that's part of the experience so write it up in your review about how much you didn't click with that particular pet. Idk, it just seems kind of contrary to the whole point of this challenge.
I think I love you.
No really, I've tried bringing this up in the past and honestly, no one ever actually complies so I just do the extra work and go along with it. Honestly, it's not as much fun hand-picking out people's pets as it is seeing what the system rolls for them.
The whole point of this being a "challenge" is to get people to try out pets they maybe never would have considered, and if you get rolled a pet you have, you tell us why you love that pet so much.
If people actually went back through and looked at a lot of the reports, they would see that I, personally, have done about 3 or 4 blue sporebat reports (on different hunters), a report on nearly every tallstrider skin. I know there's a few repeats and definitely pets I really didn't end up liking, but it was a part of the system and I went with it. I don't expect everyone to be like me. Hell, I probably hit near 100 reports and finally burned out on them, but I definitely don't understand putting massive limitations on the system.
If you have a set theme/idea of pets in mind for a character, then this challenge may not be what you're looking for and you can easily roll the pets for yourself. Now, I fully understand if you're absolutely terrified of spiders in both real life and in game, and I would never make you tame something that absolutely terrifies and disgusts you. Same with if you've had something like a gorilla a dozen times and just hate them each and every time.
However, all that being said, I'm glad to see that this thread has come alive again and so I've kept any complaints to myself, but it does make me a little sad to see lots of restrictions put on the system to the point where I have to hand pick pets, especially if the report coming back doesn't really tell anything about the pet in question (it's happened a handful of times). I like to think of our reports as a springboard for people looking for a certain pet to sort of get a jump start on what it looks like in game next to particular hunters and how the pet performs, looks, etc.
Note: I would also like to add that I am not going to stop rolls for those people with lots of restrictions; I'll still be giving them even if they make me a little sad. It's also worth mentioning that there are actually guidelines to how this process works given on the front page of the post that I'm not sure if everyone who participates reads.
One of these days I'll get around to going back through this thread and make a new thread that maybe lists just the reports or something and potentially come up with some sort of ranking system of the pet.
