That NaNoWriMo Thread!

Unread post by Aeladrine »

I know, I'm entirely too early for this! But I'm so excited! And it got me wondering: who else is doing NaNo? What are you going to write about? Are you looking forward to it or are you terrified? Have you ever won?

I'm hoping this can be the go-to NaNo thread for some time.(:

During NaNo, we can put snippets of our work here, in this thread, and keep everyone updated as we hit milestones in our word count! Not only that, but having a community area where we can all share our experiences during NaNo may help keep us on track! Or it might cause us to stray hopelessly off the path, but who knows!

Post away, fellow NaNoers!(:

All of my friends are big into the whole NaNo thing. I actually read one of my friend's works as she wrote it and cheered her on. (The others wouldn't show me theirs.) I myself did not participate as I didn't have an idea, but I figure this year I might give it a shot.

I've actually never tried NaNoWriMo.... Though I do enjoy writing, and have heard quite a bit about it. I should try it some time. I'll have to go look some stuff up about it!

I've tried it before, but I'm terrible at doing x amount each day. Well, I say that, but I've been posting a short story a day, every day but Saturday, for ages now on my LJ.

There's something about short stories that makes it much easier for me.

I love writing/typing, but I'd never be able to do NaNo. Not with school getting in my way. ;c

NaNoWriMo.

National Novel Writing Month. Happens every year. Every November, you have to write about 50,000 words over the course of said month.

I think I'm going to do it. I did it last year, but didn't win. I think I was taking my story too seriously, and not letting myself just write. So this year I'm going to write something completely stupid and not worry about whether it's good or not. It's going to be loosely based on The Wizard of Oz. Girl from our world finds herself in a magical land, and picks up three companions on her way to meet a wizard. On the way, they have various adventures. This way, I have a ready made plot, and I just have to fill it in. If I get stuck on one part, I can just invent a new adventure that they encounter along the way. I fully intend to rip off whatever resources I want/need, including WoW, in the interests of word count over originality. ;)

I was going to use this for Camp NaNo this August, but I got distracted and didn't start in time, so I'm saving it for November.

I have participated for the last 3 years and completed once, in 2009. This year I plan to revisit that one and write the version of it that's more up to date with my ideas in the last 2 years. It's fantasy, but not medieval -- some things are more like about 1910 or so in our world, I have dreadnoughts and armored vehicles and stuff ... and my main character is an undead woman, an army officer ...
