Another BM help needed topic

I've recently been trying to get back into WoW since me and Cata have had a on/off relationship. Now I don't know all the up to date infomation and well need help ...

Gear wise I know I have alot I need to improve but please feel free to point out other upgrades for me I need all the help I can get. Also my second spec is a PvP spec but I'm debating going SV ...

Since I feel like I've rambled on I'll write questions that I'm to stupid to know the answers to and hope for the best.


1. What is the BM PvE rotation?

2. What is the best BM PvE spec/s?

3. Is my reforging right? If not what should I be doing?

4. Are my gems correct? If not what should I be using?

5. What 'easy to get' gear could I use as upgrades?

I don't see much wrong with your hunter, your talents and glyphs are prefect. There is a couple gems where you could ignore the socket bonus. If the socket bonus is less then 20 agility then I just ignore it.

I've been raiding as BM for a few months now, and here are some things I picked up that might not be in the links above. (Which are very good, by the way.)

First, if you have any trinkets or other doodads that activate on use, make a "panic button" macro that triggers them and Bestial Wrath together. This way the effects will all trigger right when you and your pet are set up to do the most damage. Then hold off on triggering BW until Kill Command is on cooldown, to be sure you get two KCs every time you have all the self-buffs up.

You'll want to tame a chimera or worm and bring it along with you for AoE fights and trash clearing--BM's tree doesn't have anything that boosts our multishot or trap damage, so our pets have to do the heavy lifting. One thing I've done is to take burrow or froststorm breath off autocast and macro it in with multishot. Also, be sure to trigger BW if it comes off cooldown during an AoE phase; the focus reduction helps pump more multishots out.

Also, try not to overlap BW and Rapid Fire. One of the big advantages of Rapid Fire is that it speeds up your cobra shots, but you're not shooting many Cobras during BW because of the focus reduction on Arcane Shot and KC. Hold it for after your BW expires, and use it to quickly refill your focus bar. It's probably not a good idea in theory to overlap BW and Heroism for the same reason, but in practice we have less control over that timing...it's usually better to use BW while Heroism's up (especially on fights with a high-DPS-required burn phase) than not to use it and lose out on the opportunity.

If you'd like, you can check out my armory link to see what some other BMs are doing. I raid as BM, although my group has fallen apart and we haven't done any of the new content at all. I've yet to step foot in the new 5-mans either. I don't really see the need on my Hunter anyway since I'm in pretty much full 378+ gear anyway. I've been slacking and haven't done LFR either.

For rotation the link Adam posted is a good idea. A rotation should include a Kill Command, Arcane, and 2 Cobra. When starting a boss fight I'll drop Mark on(of course) and send my pet in. I'll pop BW (and any trinkets if I have usable ones on) and start my spam of KC and Arcane, dropping one Arcane after the second KC to put a Serpent Sting on. Once BW is off, and I'm out of Focus I'll hit Fervor to burn the last bit off again followed by Focus Fire (which by now should be at max) and Rapid Fire. At this point it's Focus regen time with Cobra Shot sitting at >1sec cast time, and tossing KC in when it's ready. With Cobra Shot being at such a fast cast (and if you have Careful Aim specced and the boss is still above 90%) it's worth the spam in my opinion. Once Rapid Fire is off you go back to your normal rotation of KC, Arcane, 2 Cobra and hit Focus Fire and Beastial Wrath when ready. I've also tossed in Explosive Traps as well which can be a nice boost to DPS on fights.

As for Spec, I'm still playing around with some abilities. Some suggest Careful Aim, some say Pathing, etc etc. You can see my spec on Armory.

I can't see your reforging, so I cannot comment on that. I've reforged for Crit/Mastery. I took Crit to 30% without buffs so in a Raid situation I can get up to 50% crit with buffs and my Trinket proc. After that I went with Mastery. I've played with reforging Crit/Haste and found my DPS went down. If I'm wearing my MM gear (crit/haste) my DPS will suffer despite it being pretty much identical to my BM set, just different reforging and some enchants. Crit/Mastery seems to work best from my personal tests and I notice when I'm wearing the wrong gear set as my DPS will drop a good 2-3k, sometimes more depending on the fight.

For gems, I only go for the socket if its 20 or more Agility. Otherwise it gets an Agility gem. If you get the same amount of Agility out of it that you would from one or two Red Agility gems, then match it.

I had Mr. Robot telling me to change some of my red agility gems to orange gems to get the socket bonus. When I ran this through Zeherah's Hunter DPS Analyzer, I was actually looking a DPS loss. So I just left my gems the way they where.

Ya, I had Mr. Robot tell me to reforge out of most of my crit into mastery/haste/hit. I don't recommend that site.

I actually use Mr. Robot and have always had good results.

The thing is, it balances out for your current spec and gear level. The forum they run is also very helpful for explaining why they advise you to reforge in certain ways.

For example, for Marksman, you absolutely want lots of Haste and Mastery. It really, really makes a HUGE difference at upper levels with good gear.

For Hit, you definitely need it to be at or close to 8%. If you don't have it there, you are missing a lot more than you think, which lowers your DPS significantly.

The forum guys were super helpful and patient about explaining it to me, and my raiding buddies backed up their logic quite a bit. Mr. Robot isn't perfect for all classes, but it really is a pretty darn good site.

I also recommend an addon called "Spell Flash". It really helps with rotations and helping with DPS, especially if you're still learning the spec. It is very simple. It does a little flash on each one of your buttons to let you know which one is most likely the best for you to push next. Of course, it is just an addon, but a lot of the time, especially on longer fights, it helps you out quite a bit.

There is one for Hunters, Druids, Racials, and a bunch other.
