The Urge to Tame: Sated.

Unread post by Velkyn »

This is about my first serious post on these forums. I had no intentions of joining, buuuut... got a little too attached to my hunter, and all her little beasties, and had been usin' this place as a resource long enough... why not?

So, yesterday, I got bitten by a nice little bug. The urge to tame something new. I groaned. It was going to turn into a day-long thing, and I knew it from the start. I already had Sambas, and Karoma, and Ghostcrawler (all of which fell into my hands while I was herbing in various places. Funny how that works), and Loque and King Krush (<3). What did I want to chase after this time? I decided, on a whim, to wander up to Northrend and do a little poking around, and finally settled on camping for Arcturis. I like bears, they're pretty cool creatures in general, and I also play a bear druid a little more often than I do my hunter, so why not?

Well, I had absolutely no clue when Arcturis had last spawned, everything I was reading said his spawn timer was anywhere between ten and twenty one hours. I groaned again. This was going to be a headache, and probably drive me insane. Appropriately, while I sat waiting to hear that glorious sound of NPCscan, I sat back in my chair and read my copy of H.P. Lovecraft The Complete Fiction, which had arrived in the mail for me. I chattered with guildies, and on skype, always listening in the background for that sound. A couple of other hunters swung by, one telling me when Gondria had spawned. But I wasn't too concerned with Gondria. I wanted Arcturis, so I could always have a little bit of my bear druid with me no matter where I was. I told them I'd let them know when Arcturis appeared, and continued to sit there with my book. I flew over his spawn point for about 8-10 hours straight. I was finally saying on Skype, how the new plan was to lay down in bed with my laptop next to me and- NPCscan went off in the middle of my words. Apparently, Arcturis had liked that plan well enough that she spawned! Moments later, I tamed her, and named her Nikos in honor of my Tauren bear on Proudmoore.

But, I wasn't done for the night. Some of that time, while I was waiting for Arcturis, was spent contemplating what other beasties I should get. Much easier ones to get, of course. I had picked out a list of other little beasties I wanted to add to my stables, and went off to get myself the rest of these, and hopefully sate my urge to tame random beasties for a time. I went out and scooped up Rex Ashil, who I'm calling Jayne, a white spiked wind serpent, called Oliza, a dark green ravager (Calix), and a Baradin crocolisk I named Elseya. That should do it! I should be content! I shouldn't want for a pet for a time, at least. I had more options for Beast Mastery and Survival both!

Theeeen I saw Kirix. I was doomed. A near-black spider, that I could have resisted. A near-black and toxic green lava spider? Crud. But, it could be left for tomorrow. I went and slept. Upon waking up, I decided to go see if Kirix was up, having no clue how to get to his spawn to begin with, and only having done the first handful of quests to open up the Molten Front. I was interrupted, however, by NPCscan going off. Ankha. A green tinted tiger spirit beast. I remembered how to tame her. Crap. So, I got Ankha, who I later decided to name Maki. I returned to a stable master, and put her up for the time being, and headed back towards the Shrine. Hnn... why not, I swooped down further to check for Terrorpene on a whim. There he was, and now I had Ignean to go with Terran, my regular Ancient Turtle. Back to a stable master, and finally out to the Molten Front with Clack at my side. NPCscan alert! Kirix! ...a ruse. A Troll's pet, quite literally. I cursed and grumbled and groaned, and went ahead and did my dailies. Solix! I pondered the orange lava spider, and slunk over to see if I could find him. Apparently not, he seemed to be stuck underground or something, I couldn't locate him where ever he was, so I left him be, and finished up my dailies.

Now. How do I get to the Furnace where Kirix spawns... Through the fire and the pain once again we know! Oh... wait. Well, it was painful. Very very painful. Like. Owfire! Anyways. Then I saw him (her?), that beautiful, long, teasing green leg, before Kirix skittered back along it's path. It was up~! That in itself made me a very happy hunter. No one else was around! Aaaand... my mage friend had just logged off. Well. There went my possible Time Warp, I didn't want to go locate a core hound and toss it away like trash. That always just felt wrong to me. So... how did one tame Kirix? Something about standing on the floating rocks? Alright! (About this time, NPCscan went off, yelling at me that Karkin was up. I wasn't too worried about a little black lightning-looking crab. I had a green lava spider in front of me!) Let's try this! Aaaand... fail. That's too far a jump to make normally! ...Oh. Thermal Vents... where are those? Put it this way, there was a lot of failing on my part, and probably 150 gold worth of repair bills. I finally ditched the "cheap" methods, and decided to face Kirix head on. I sent some Potions of Speed and Broiled Mountain Trout over from my druid (Hurray for engineering!), then proceeded to poke Kirix. Concussive shot. Disengage. Deterrence. PotionofSpeedLifebloomTameBeast! Comeon.Comeon.Comeon.Come-...really? With .5 seconds left on the cast, Kirix had melted/torn my face off. Let's try this again! Oh. Wait. Aspect of the Wild! Nomnom Broiled Mountain Trout. Alright. Wait for Kirix to wander by... Concussive Shot. Disengage. Deterrence. PotionofSpeedLifebloomTameBeast! Comeon.Comeon.Comeon.Come-Yay!Mine!Greenspider!

Back to Stormwind, to admire my little beastie... oh... it needs a name. Curses! What do I call it. I've been pondering that since I tamed my little vindictive, spiteful lava spider... and I've just decided on Anansi. Normally depicted as male, but I don't feel too bad having my Kirix be female with the name of a male spider trickster.

Yes, I know, long post is long, and I dun have stuff transmogged beyond my goggles. Sorry! I had good luck :P Hopefully though, this will sate any urge I had to tame things... unless of course my NPCscan goes off in Deepholme, and I spot Jadefang...

Gratz on Kirix!

BTW...if you ever want Solix, it's in a cave. Once you enter Molten front, go down on the right side (Ashen Fields) and straight to the back (Igneous Depths). (Don't go UP the ramp to Forlorn Spire). There is a cave entrance along the back wall and Solix is in there, back right hand corner in a lava pool! Stand in the blue rune things if you want to admire him so the flying lava doesn't knock you around :D

Whoops, tells you what I know about the Molten Front rares that I wasn't after :P I only knew about Kirix, and even then, only a little. (As is shown by by 150 gold repair bill in trying to tame her)
