Stags now using horse skeleton.
I was browsing through wowmodelviewer and noticed that stags are no longer using the stag skeleton but seem to have switched to the horse one. They are even able to use the grazing animation.
Although I like that the horse animation has fixed the issue that i had with the front legs of the stag, I think that the lack of the tail flick is a bit odd looking. I tried it out on my druid and it is not too bad but I wonder if it is just a temporary change.

I'm a little confused...stags always used the horse skeleton? Stags, talbuks, rams, horses, zhevras, undead horses, even the new goats. They've always shared the same skeleton.

Here is a picture of the grazing animation.

Although it is similar, the animation was a bit different before. I will try to see if i can get an animated gif of the differences.

Just went to check WMV. The skeleton is the same as its always been, they might have just added the grazing animation specifically since it wasn't with the stags before. Otherwise they're all still on the same skeleton.

(I always loved that attack animation from this screenshot.
It's like they're knighting someone.)
In any case, it's certainly possible that a couple of the more recent horse animations were added, but overall I don't see any major differences in skeleton.

Bahahahahaha that's amazing! That's really cool though that they can graze now!
They need a bit longer neck... but I love added animations!

Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
Have you updated your wowmodelviewer with the wow-update-base-15726.MPQ? The change only shows when it is updated. The stag no longer has the awful bow back.
I got a screenshot with and without the update. Unfortunatly this computer is not able to handle animated Gifs so i can only screenshot. They are both on the same frame.

Ahh I see what you mean. So it's the same skeleton, but just has some subtle tweaks in places. The back definitely looks improved. xD

Ah yes, the famous horse soft knees, the reason I don't ride my Queldorei Steed as much as I would.

Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
Ahh, that was yours Xakaal! I couldn't remember who's screenie it was, but I always think of it when I see that animation. xD And yup, that skeleton seems to be used often, I've probably even missed a few (oh, I believe giraffes use it as well now that I think of it...maybe even gazelles?). EDIT: Yes, added them to the image too just for the heck of it.
Not to derail, but I was just thinking that this might be a good idea of what we'll get with the quilen skeleton. They could work off a model (hopefully worg?) and just tweak specific areas while retaining the base rig and animations.

Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
I know giraffes do the crazy kick action, probably gazelles too, i cant name any tho that can survive more then a single hit tho, i can only recall critters from Barrens. I totally agree to the quilin problem too, if they can tweak the worg skeleton a bit so they can sit properly and not like they're hovering inches from the ground doing something unmentionable, then we can retain the worg skeleton and blizz can have their sitting statuesVephriel wrote:Ahh, that was yours Xakaal! Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
The animation is very similar but it does have a few tweaks. The only thing that is bothering me a bit is the tail. It simply hangs lifelessly instead of flicks. Note the difference in tail position.

Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
They may be tweaking the model for the glyph that transforms the druids Travel Form into a stag now that i remember we're getting that option. Not just any color tho, its specifically the white model to my knowledge. That might be why we're getting these updates to the models bank of animations.
Seeing more sceenies of different animations, im def seeing quite a difference though i cant piece together how well or wonky it looks unless i can actually see an animated model using the horse skeleton (and i bet you the grazing animation is going to be the special move when you press the space bar while standing still. Gilnean horses graze when you do their mount special. Stags look awful when they rise up on their hind legs so blizz is prolly going with the graze approach for the stags mount special).
I hope it looks alright to a degree i approve of
my ally druid worships Malorne and in RP, is a druid of the antler which is the order that reveres him. So im extremely stoked for the new glyph. It practically perfects her RP from a mechanics standpoint (since druids of the claw becomes bears and talon becomes birds, etc.)

Re: Stags now using horse skeleton.
So that would make goats the only beasts on this skeleton tameable, right? I wonder why they restrict it like that? Why can't we have a ram or a talbuk? Heck, even a horse. I'm really curious as to their reasoning behind this restriction.
