mantid tanks, now with families, not what you are thinking.

Unread post by Slickrock »

So, as much as I want all these mantid tanks tameable, I have a feeling we won't get all of these.

Why? There seem to be a lot of them, and they have some sort of organization.

And then there are babies.

And then there's mom. She might be upset with you.

Some of the others seem to be under one of those color change spell effects.

A bit over there are another type of humanoid mob called clutchkeepers. Maybe they provide the organization, so there's still hope for taming them.

More of mom... and last one is what mom must have replaced.

Maybe these are the original A'quir?
I mean Pandaria has been hiding for how many years?

Well, I found that last one wandering a few patches ago, I think the same area, so it was likely a placeholder.

And now there's kids, lol.

Those are really great screens. You're probably right, but I'm still holding out hope. There are lots of tigers with cubs and stuff in game you can tame. It's unlikely, but they're so pretttty. T_T

Yeah, I'm hoping we get a few... there's also that named red one that appears to be part of a faction (the one Wain mentioned before).

Yeah, my guess would be that we will actually do quests for that faction against these other mantids. Probably kill the mom, and rescue the broodlings.

Great set of pics :)

I guess it depends on whether the tanks are intelligent beings or just clever beasts. Silithid society has structure too, but in the way ants or bees do. And the tanks could be controlled by the intelligent mantids the way that the the Qiraji control the Silithids. I'm not sure what the storylines in that zone will suggest.

It really, really seems to me that some of these will be tameable. The Mantid Tanks and the Mantids seem to have a very similar relationship to the Qiraj and the Silithid.

I mean, the name of one of the huge tanks is "Fear-Driven Brute."
Let's analyze (not OVERanalyze, but simply look at) the name.

Fear-Driven: implies it is not following its own will, but rather forced into it by a more powerful being.
Brute: Implies immense strength (which is obvious by its elite status and size) and low intelligence.

I don't think that is a sentient creature, rather massive local creatures taken advantage of by the Mantids.

Edit: And here is the quest text that involves them.

<Mei motions towards the battlefield.>
You see those huge mantid in the fields out there? They have an aura about them that reminds me of the sadness we saw at Zhu's Watch.

Perhaps... they're under the influence of the sha, too?

I kept Ken-Ken's mask - the one he used to remove the sha from our wardens... and from Yi-Mo. I believe that, if we use it on the mantid, we can convince them to turn back.
To turn back- into what? To turn back into non-aggressive creatures that are not corrupted by sha or higher mantid orders?
If these were the same intelligent Mantid that the Pandaren were fighting against, they would not reference the creatures in this way.

Actually, by "turn back" I interpreted it as "turn around and go back home and stop attacking us", which might apply to a sentient creature as well :)

Was that underking in the last pic also a mantid, or was he just included due to general coolness? :P

Since this is the most recent Mantid Tank thread, I'll post it here.

I came across something that disturbed me. Like Silithid Tanks have a damaged state, so do the Mantid ones and they are..

Well.. see for yourself:

.. I just wanna hug 'em and tell them it's all right. :'[
